We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Nurse to join our Children’s Community Continence Service with a clear focus to support children and young people in the community to achieve their continence potential.

We currently provide assessment, treatment, support and guidance for children and young people living within Greater Preston, Chorley and South Ribble for Children and Young People who have difficulties with Nocturnal Enuresis but from September a new fully integrated Children’s Continence service will be implemented.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will a clinical lead professional in supporting children and young people referred with continence issues.
  • Through robust and holistic assessment, identification and care planning, you will provide high quality evidence base care to further empower children and young people whilst providing advice and support to the CYP and their families.
  • You will provide formal and informal support and guidance to health and social care professionals and clinical leads on matters relating to continence, through the provision of specialist support from an autonomous practitioner.
  • The post holder will work without direct supervision and will manage and maintain a high quality Children’s continence service by ensuring the development of evidence based practice, clinical supervision and audit by ensuring standards are monitored.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with children/Young people and their families, MDT members inclusive of clinical colleagues.
  • Ensure a high standard of nursing within a community setting is delivered by self and others based on holistic assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of evidence based care to meet CYP needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
  • Ensure that own development needs and those of others are fully met.
  • Contribute to service improvement and the delivery of excellent care and treatment,
  • Maintain accurate clinical records.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate NMC Registration
  • RNC Children’s Nurse qualification or equivalent
  • Mentorship qualification


Desirable criteria
  • Community specialist Practitioner Degree in Children’s Nursing
  • Non medical prescribing qualification


Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of clinical competence in area of Children’s Community nursing e.g. Assessment of a CYP continence needs
  • Ability to Implement changes within nursing practice
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
  • Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs
  • Able to promote team working and best practice
  • Effective IT skills and experience of hospital IT systems
  • Good presentation and teaching skills
  • Positive ambassador for the changing needs of the service and able to take on board new ideas, skills and knowledge.
  • Access to own transport.
