This is a key leadership role that supports our efforts to improve the environment and restore the fishery. The Foundation’s Head of Finance will join the senior management team and lead the Finance team to deliver the Foundation’s strategic goalsThis role is responsible for managing all aspects of the Accounting and Administration team, which is responsible for ensuring all aspects of the completeness and accuracy of the Foundation’s accounts and producing all statutory financial returns.The CFO has oversight of all financial matters, working with the team to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information and financial reports, including tracking cashflow.RESPONSIBLE TO Chief ExecutiveRESPONSIBLE FOR: Financial Accounting and Planning TeamResponsibilities
  • Key member of Executive Management Team reporting directly to the CEO & the Trustees
  • Ensure organisation complies with all legislation and associated regulations covering all financial matters
  • Writing funding proposals for large strategic projects
  • Ensure timely submission of grant applications and progress reports for funders
  • Liaison with the Financial & General Purposes Committee
  • Monthly management accounts, statutory accounts and management of external audit
  • Central & project cashflow management, budgeting and forecasting
  • Management of project costing for 50+ cost centres
  • Management of grant claims & adherence to project agreements and budgets
  • VAT (partial VAT), payroll, pensions, insurance, gift aid
  • Liaising with external officers, including HMRC tax and VAT compliance.
  • Annual Charity Commission return Achievements
  • Standardisation of all project cashflows to streamline the forecasting process and align with the accounting systems
  • Implementation of partial VAT within the organisation
  • Management of the cashflow & finances of the organisation
  • Manage a team of 4 staff

  • Be able to resolve issues with a logical and people-centred approach
  • Have good planning skills to control effective use of resources.
  • IT Skills - ability to appraise functionality and requirements of the finance system.
