Business Development Manager, Motorrad

(Regional, West/Northwest, Scotland & Ireland)

As Business Development Manager you will be responsible for maximising Motorrad UK Motorcycle and Scooter sales (New and Used), Aftersales performance (P&A), and Retailer profitability through the achievement of Motorrad regional sales and aftersales targets and Retailer customer satisfaction targets.

Key Responsibilities

Target Achievement [Full]
  • Deliver and agree retailer annual, quarterly and monthly Motorrad sales and aftersales targets
  • Drive performance / target commitment from each one of their Region’s retailers both monthly and quarterly to secure payment of retailer volume, performance and structural bonuses and achieve Retailer profitability
  • Review ongoing progress against all key KPIs, including sales and aftersales targets
  • Implement remedial action to address shortfalls against target

Business/Sales Planning [Full]
  • Ensure the Retailer’s business/sales plan is designed to continually improve their position within their Area of Influence, aligning their resources with the market opportunity
  • Evaluate the retailer management’s capability to both realise the market potential and achieve a sustainable return on sales
  • Monitor progress against the business plan through regular quarterly and annual reviews
  • Supervise implementation of central marketing campaigns on retailer level and in addition establish links with local dealer marketing agencies to customize own campaigns.
  • Support retailer on their AOI analysis and identify sales potentials and suitable marketing initiatives within retailer market area (e.g. product placements, local events, local adverts etc.)
  • Implement, coach and direct effective retailer processes, e.g. Enquiry management, local marketing, Stock and pipeline management
  • Accurate Forecasting of retailer performance vs monthly and quarterly targets.
  • Plan and assist with new model launches and training programmes, quarterly marketing plan to maximize impact of new models and tactical programmes to supporting brand strategy and revenue targets.
  • Develop and review Retailer Business and Marketing Plans to optimize BMW Motorrad UK revenue and retailer profit relative to market area potential.

Enhancement of franchise value [Full]
  • Quantify the retailer market area opportunity e.g. the value of the 10 year vehicle PARC and the size of the new vehicle Area of Influence
  • Support the retailer with the recruitment, selection and succession planning of retailer management
  • Ensure optimum asset utilisation both current and fixed
  • Ensure operating costs are scalable to revenue opportunity
  • Implement and enforce Motorrad Brand Values, Retail Standards and Motorrad commercial guidelines to ensure retailer meet and maintain the required operating standards.

Franchise Standards [Shared]
  • Ensure adherence to Motorrad franchise requirements e.g. retail standards
  • Evaluate the retailer’s Motorrad facility and capacity planning to ensure they have sufficient capacity to realise the Motorrad UK market potential

Customer Satisfaction [Shared]
  • Responsible for continued improvement in Retailer VoC performance
  • Review retailer remuneration schemes for customer facing employees
  • Identify issues with inter departmental business processes
  • Work towards ensuring low employee attrition and high staff satisfaction
  • Implement a customer centric dealership culture which measures and rewards customer loyalty
  • Graduate level or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable motor industry experience, ideally with vehicles sales and after sales experience
  • Strong commercial acumen with knowledge of profit and loss and balance sheet statements
  • Minimum 5 years retail / wholesale experience including 3 years on management level and/or a field position
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to think creatively and laterally over a wide range of complex and partly conflicting requirements
  • Individual needs to be a self-starter, very reliable and trustworthy and capable of dealing under extreme time pressure / high working load
  • Motorcycle driving license (preferable)
  • Good knowledge of motorcycle market
  • Highly self-motivated and able to motivate and influence others
  • Passionate representative of the BMW Motorrad Brand
  • Good knowledge in BMW systems, including IVS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Products, in particular Excel
  • Highly numerate
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of an organisation, and conduct effective presentations
  • Ability to work and deliver a result under time and resource pressure
  • Well-developed organisation and time management skills
  • High energy with strong drive for results and the tenacity to achieve objectives
  • Excellent planner and tactical thinker
  • This is a field-based role which will require regular travel.
