About You

We are looking for a Bookbinding specialist with very good practical and theoretical knowledge in conservation and restoration as well as book arts and crafts and modern and contemporary practices. We require a tutor who has experience teaching advanced and beginner learners who can differentiate their teaching where required and provide 1:1 support to accommodate specific learner needs. You will have experience of developing your own curriculum, planning and assessing the work of learners and providing clear and concise feedback.

The learners have been taking part in the Bookbinding class at RHACC for between 10 and 30 years and all work very independently. We require a tutor who is flexible in their approach and is not overly prescriptive, the ideal candidate will give the learners space and time to work on their personal projects and provide demonstrations/carry out activities when appropriate or when they feel an individual requires intervention to ensure the technique is carried out safely and correctly. You will have the skills and knowledge to able to teach the learners something new and current in keeping with industry demand and developments.

About the Role

As a Sessional Tutor, who has or is working towards a certified teaching qualification, you will join our bank of teaching staff and will be offered courses as and when that match your area of expertise.

Hours are variable and cover daytimes, evenings and weekends. Part-time Tutors work closely with Programme Leaders in the designing, planning and delivering courses which stretch and challenge our learners as well as preparing a variety of learning materials, providing guidance to learners on progression options, attending termly meetings and completing course administration. You will have the opportunity to pitch your own ideas for new courses and help shape the Creative Industries provision.
