Bardon is Aldi’s first globally automated site with the maintenance team being pivotal to the plant’s success. Aldi require Maintenance Section Leaders who will be empowered to shape Aldi’s future and tackle some of the toughest technical and logistical challenges around. Working closely with the flow control room, a key element of the role will be to support the onsite operational team by offering technical guidance, system knowledge and carrying out engineering specific root cause analysis.

Location: Bardon - Prior to the opening of Bardon, the role will be based within National Supply Chain at Atherstone National Head Office

Your New Role:

  • Drive a culture of safety onsite, identifying areas of risk within the automation area and leading by example.
  • Carrying out trend analysis and creating reports and dashboards to support the senior operational team.
  • Analyse and integrate automation systems.
  • Responsible for the relationship between Aldi and the onsite third-party engineering team.
  • Actively carry out root cause analysis on automation incidents, supplying in depth analysis and reliable counter measures to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Support audits of site performance and challenge current maintenance engineering strategies to ensure maximum value is maintained.
  • In conjunction with the operational flow control team, develop contingency and disaster recovery plans/documentation.
  • Delivering performance and availability KPI’s.
  • Support the planning of the operation in relation to the system and building workflow.
  • Work closely with IT to ensure wider Aldi system integration and ongoing performance.
  • Drives a culture of Continuous Improvement amongst the wider operational team.
  • Supports the implementation of Continuous Improvement opportunities and provides feedback on performance.
  • Reviews EOS (End of Shift Reports) investigates fault details and potential preventions.
  • Maintains all documentation relating to engineering specific subjects, such as FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis).
  • Responsible for supporting the onsite training team by providing automation specific training to frontline colleagues and maintaining documentation.
  • Support for operational team using engineering experience to develop robust processes.
  • Ensuring all operational expectations and daily ordering fulfilment are met.
  • KPI’s are monitored and achieved.
  • An active member of the maintenance team, advising on plant safety, condition, and performance.
  • Manage Aldi expectations and relationships through excellent communication explaining complex problems in simple terms.

  • Automation experience within a similar role.

  • Excellent stakeholder communication at all levels of the plant.
  • Understanding of Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic technical manuals & drawings.
  • Proactive and holistic mindset.

Skills & Experience:

  • Educated to Level 3 in an Engineering subject.
  • IOSH managing safely qualification.
  • Experience in Automation Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Operations.
  • Previously worked with Automated Control Systems.
  • Proactive and holistic mindset.
  • Root Cause Analysis.
  • Problem solving.
  • Computer literate.
  • Confident communicator.
  • Detail focused.
  • Excellent time management.

  • Salary starting at £42,740 rising to £45,835 - pro rata
  • Please note, the salary displayed is based on a 45 hours per week contract. Aldi are able to also offer 40 hour contracts and in these instances, the salary offered would be pro-rated.
