Assistant Head - Catering, Travel and Business

Salary: £35,971FTE per annum

37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Are you our next Assistant Head of Catering, Travel and Business?

As we continue our journey to excellence we are looking for an Assistant Head to join the Hospitality & Lifestyle team. As Assistant Head you will have expertise in at least one of the subject areas (catering, travel or business) and teach in that area too, whilst leading on cross-cutting themes such as student engagement, progress, assessment, and internal quality processes. Working closely with the Head of Area and wider leadership team, you will facilitate and role model excellence to staff and students.

The successful candidate will make an important contribution to the student journey, ensuring that students leave us with the skills, attitudes and behaviours to be successful in their next steps.

Responsibilities of our Assistant Head - Catering, Travel and Business:

  • Supporting the Head of Institute in leading and managing a collection of subject areas, ensuring that high standards of teaching, learning and assessment are maintained.
  • Promote the College’s vision and mission and strategic objectives and to promote behaviours which underpin them.
  • Contribute to the colleges curriculum development process which includes preparing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing new programmes and resources.
  • Monitoring and analysing student data to identify areas for improvement and working with staff to implement interventions and strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Contribute to the quality of learning activities, ensuring that they meet College quality standards and result in improving student success rates.
  • Line managing a small team of staff within the department as required, including carrying out staff appraisals and performance management.
  • Undertaking a teaching commitment as per substantive role, and thus maintaining lecturer duties.
  • Supporting team members to develop their practice in student management, teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Participating in college-wide committees and working groups as required.
  • Undertaking any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head of Institute.

  • Significant experience of delivering good teaching and leading in further education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
