What you’ll be doing

The role within Internal Audit will encompass assisting the team in planning and undertaking internal audits across the Trust’s operations and processes. You will undertake a range of duties which may include;

  • Researching the activities being audited by spending time with the area of the organisation being audited; walking through how they operate a task/process; review policy, processes and standards related to the activity being audited
  • Data gathering, analysis and interpretation through face to face, email and other forms of data gathering practises used in the Trust
  • Documenting the business process and control environment through process mapping, e.g. flowcharting, and validating the process via a ‘walkthrough’
  • Identifying and evaluating the associated governance, risks and controls through mapping against governance policy set out in the organisation, reviewing the documented internal risk process including any documented management controls in place as set out by the business
  • Identifying vulnerabilities and exposures
  • Communicating the results of audit work to audit management
  • Helping to monitor and follow up on audit recommendations
  • Assisting with the collation of Risk registers from across the Directorates of the Trust.

    Working in a supported learning environment, you will undertake tasks in the Internal Audit department relating to your apprenticeship. In addition to the training and support you receive from the Trust; you will work towards achieving the IIA Certificate in Internal Audit and Business Risk and the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Part 1 – Essentials of Internal Auditing.

    You will be working with your Trust Line Manager/ Mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship. You’ll attend weekly catch up meeting with the Risk & Assurance team and be accountable for your own progression in relation to the Apprenticeship Standard. You will be required to complete and upload relevant evidence to the appropriate e-portfolio system to document your progress as well as maintain timesheets for Off-the Job training. You will abide by the Trust’s ways of working and uphold our Values and Behaviours. You will be required to complete mandatory e-learning, courses and training provided as well as preparing for exams if applicable.

Who we’re looking for

  • Team player with the ability to work independently or as part of a wider team
  • Keen to learn, be committed to self-development and enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and embracing new technologies
  • Experience in technology and IT with the use of business tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Confident communicator with good interpersonal skills
  • Organised with a good attention to detail
  • 3 A Levels at grades A - C or equivalent and 5 GCSEs at grades A - C (9 - 4) including English and Maths or equivalent
