Overview

We would like to welcome an apprentice to join our happy, experienced team to work in one of our classes, alongside an existing Teacher and Teaching Assistant. There is the opportunity to work in our Early Years Reception class or a class in our Key Stage 1 department.

The apprentice would be supported to provide classroom support during the delivery of the curriculum, whilst assisting in the support and integration of all pupils including those with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as able, gifted and talented pupils

Salary:£4.50 per hour

Hours:Monday to Friday - 8.30am-3.30pm

Contract: Fixed term for the duration of the apprenticeship

Positions: 1 available

Holiday must be taken out of term time in the school holidays.

About the role

  • Develop an understanding of the needs and targets of the pupils supported.
  • Foster a supportive relationship with the pupils concerned.
  • Enable pupils to learn effectively in class, small groups or individually. Such support might involve:
    • Motivating and encouraging the pupil
    • Building on pupil strengths and improving areas of weakness
    • Clarifying teachers instructions
    • Simplifying and extend tasks
    • Helping pupils to stay on task and complete their work
    • Helping pupils to use appropriate resources
    • Assisting with the organisation of homework
    • Assist the class teacher in the preparation of learning resources when required
    • Encouraging good behaviour and modelling this to children
    • Explaining new ideas in ways that make them relevant and meaningful
    • Encouraging pupils to ask questions and answer them accurately
    • Encouraging children to find out for themselves or from each other
  • Assist in the personal development of pupils by:
  • Encouraging positive attitudes and good behaviour
  • Helping pupils to develop good relationships with staff and other pupils
  • Promoting self-esteem
  • Developing personal organisation
  • Helping with personal needs as appropriate
  • Liaise, as necessary, with Classroom Teachers / SENCO / Inclusion Manager to:
  • Contribute to planning activities for individuals and small groups with whom you are working
  • Modify approaches or develop specific materials for individual pupils
  • Assist in administration by:
    • Maintaining a record of work undertaken with pupils, e.g. notes on planning, marking children’s work and contributing to assessments
    • Carry out planned observations of children to support teacher’s assessment
    • Contributing to pupils records, personal targets, plans and reviews
    • Gathering evidence of performance
    • Take responsibility for supporting the teacher to ensure that aspects of the classroom environment are lively and stimulating
    • Help provide interactive displays
  • Assist teachers on playground duty as required
  • Contribute to a productive climate for learning in which pupils feel valued and secure.
  • To undertake any further duties reasonably requested by the Head Teacher or their representative.
  • To attend Teaching Assistant and Learning Support Assistant’s meetings and training as requested by the Head Teacher.
  • To support the midday supervisors during the lunchtime break, helping to set up eating areas, monitoring children whilst eating, monitoring children whilst playing, helping to tidy up eating areas after lunch.

Qualifications required:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) pass grade in English and Maths
  • First Aid Certificate (desirable not essential)

Personal qualities:

  • Be a good communicator
  • Have a good sense of humour
  • Be empathetic, tolerant, patient and calm
  • Be organised and resourceful
  • Have a willingness to learn and take on new skills
  • Be flexible and ready to adapt to changing circumstances
  • A willingness to embrace the Christian ethos of the school

Any training accessed by existing staff will also be offered to the apprentice. Safeguarding training.
