Over the last 28 years, Intersurgical has developed and grown a range of carbon dioxide absorbents for both medical and non-medical applications. These absorbents are now well established and widely used throughout the world, we are a major global supplier of CO2 Absorbents and recognised as a source of expertise in this field.


In order to continue to grow and support the CO2 Absorbents range, there is now an exciting vacancy for the position of ‘Absorbents Product and Development Scientist’.


The successful applicant will be a hard working and enthusiastic individual, reporting directly to and working closely with the Product and Development Manager for Absorbents.


Working in the sodalime factory, sodalime laboratory, but also desk based, the job will include, equipment trials (sometimes external), sample preparation, production trouble shooting, product testing, complaint investigations and much more; all while following, protocols, standards and sometimes bespoke methods.


There will also be the need to analyse results, write test reports and present findings. The candidate will be expected to develop an understanding of the CO2 absorbents manufacturing processes, how absorbents work chemically, how they function and interact within anaesthetic systems and interact with volatile anaesthetics. In addition how they function within other non-medical equipment applications.


There will be the opportunity for the candidate to progress and develop in this role, and over time, they will be expected to acquire the skills and understanding to take on product management responsibilities and increasingly assist the Product and Development Manager for Absorbents in this role. This will include providing technical and marketing support to Intersurgical subsidiaries and distributors, participating in sales and strategy meetings, market research, hospital visits/customer meetings, attending exhibitions, audits and intellectual property matters.


The ideal candidate will be able to function effectively across a number of interrelated departments, in particular, production, development, quality, marketing and sales; dealing with a variety of tasks whilst having the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

  • Appropriate experience of working in a scientific and/or technical position
  • Preferably have a degree level qualification in a science based subject
  • Have at least an A level standard or equivalent qualification in chemistry (other qualifications and experience may be considered if they are appropriate)

Hours of Work:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 09:00am – 17:30pm
  • 40 hours per week Working outside normal office hours will occasionally be required with short notice
