Calderdale Industrial Museum Association seeks a new Funding Director, who will be responsible to the Board for pursuing opportunities to secure external funding to support the continuing development/operation of the museum.

What will you be doing?

The Funding Director’s key responsibilities are -
  • Strategy and Income Alignment – Own and develop CIMA’s funding strategy working closely with the CIMA board to agree a common understanding of museum revenue as a whole and the funds available therein which can be allocated to development and employed management/administration activities. This understanding is critical to the Funding Director’s role as it identifies both opportunities to apply for ‘match funding’ and prioritises the initiatives where external funding is an absolute requirement or only way forwards.
  • Identifying Funding Opportunities – Develop and maintain a portfolio of relevant charitable organisations and private donors along with their individual criteria for submitting/granting bids and providing funds or services. Match the funding requirements for each CIMA project or initiative to one or more potential provider
  • Identify Projects to be Funded – Work with other Directors and volunteers to identify future projects for which all or part of the work will need external funding. Estimate and agree costs and suppliers for such external works.
  • Preparing Submissions – Prepare submissions on a priority basis. Engage the relevant Director(s) in developing submissions with input and support from volunteers and staff with relevant technical knowledge or expertise in bid management and development
  • Coordinating Bid Outcomes – Manage each bid from initial submission to funding outcomes and co-ordinate any additional input required into the bid process. Compile feedback from unsuccessful bids to inform and develop funding strategy and refine individual provider criteria accordingly in support of potential future bids
  • Funder Relationship Management – Build & develop relationships with bid providers when bids are successful and identify future opportunities.
What are we looking for?

Essential
  • Willing and able to commit the time required to fulfil the specific role of Funding Director
  • Have integrity, strategic vision and good/independent judgement
  • Have an eye for detail
  • Have a good working knowledge of how fund providers operate and the bid management process in respect of the charitable sector
  • Understand the nature and requirements of good governance with regard to bid management and show due diligence in its execution
  • Be a good team player able to communicate effectively and work with other Board members (particularly the Finance & Exhibition directors) and engage/coordinate staff and volunteers involved in developing funding bids
Desirable
  • Track record in managing or supporting successful funding bids
  • Previous experience working for or with funding providers
  • Have a working knowledge of financial management and accounting practices
  • Previous experience of working in museums and heritage (this can include working as a volunteer)
  • An interest in industry
  • An interest in the industrial & social heritage of Calderdale
What difference will you make?

CIMA seeks a Funding Director following the retirement of the incumbent. This is a key role within the management structure. The organisation, with the exception of a paid Administrative Manager, is entirely volunteer-run. It is in the process of making the transition from focusing primarily on repair and restoration, to operating as a medium-size business. We urgently need someone with sound fund raising skills to apply their expertise to help give direction to this process.
