Northampton General Hospital has created a new post to help reduce the utility use and carbon across its Cliftonville site. With responsibility for a budget in excess of £5million the post holder will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that will enable the Trust to meet its 2040 target.

As the Energy Manager, you will work to deliver the Trust’s goal of carbon net zero by 2040, energy and water management, energy purchasing, energy auditing, business case development and training responsibilities.

Every day will be different, but some of the main areas you will be leading on will be:
  • Leading on the Energy Efficiency schemes that are required to get us to Carbon Net Zero
  • Producing Monthly and Annual Reports to report on carbon and budgetary positions
  • Help to supervise the Carbon Net Zero Apprentice hosted on the NGH site
  • Review and ensure compliance with all guidelines and legislation relating to utilities
  • Analyse consumption trends, conduct audits, and review spend to help form business cases and determine future strategy
  • Liaise with the Estates Operational and Capital Projects Team to provide expert advice on the estates infrastructure and refurbishments

The Energy Manager is responsible for the delivery of the Trust’s strategic and operational approach to Energy and Utilities Management across the whole Cliftonville site, embedding the Trust’s policies and practices. They will
  • Provide specialist energy management services to the Trust and contribute to the delivery of the Net Zero Strategy and Green Plan.
  • Take responsibility for legal compliance relating to energy and water
  • Lead on corporate responsibility, energy and water efficiency, sustainable design and construction, carbon strategy, utility efficiency auditing, monitoring and evaluation, budget management, communication and energy management policies and protocols.
  • Proactively manage and monitor utility consumption throughout the Trust site
  • Ensure that the Trust fulfills its statutory & best practice obligations in relation to energy management and sustainability.
  • Work with energy suppliers to identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and reduce utility consumption and costs.
  • Liaise with the Capital Projects Team and provide expert advice on new build and refurbishment projects to ensure they are built to NHS Carbon Net Zero Standards.
  • Analyse complex data including consumption trends, latest market forecasts and financial spends to provide advice to the Estates and Facilities team and to influence future Estates Strategy.
