Consultant Haematologists - 3 posts

The posts have arisen due to the retirement of some members of the team. There are two posts based at Bournemouth Hospital and one post based at Poole Hospital

The successful applicants will be joining a committed and friendly team of 12 Haematologists We are looking to appoint 3 full-time consultant on 10PA’s . University Hospitals Dorset already employ a number of joint clinical and laboratory based academic/educational posts with Southampton and Bournemouth Universities and applicants wanting to pursue these opportunities are encouraged.

We currently work across the two sites with two separate In Patient facilities. The three posts, due to retirements, will ultimately be cross site based when the new cancer care ward is built at the Bournemouth site with out patient and chemotherapy facilities across the two hospitals. Initially there are two posts at Bournemouth and one at Poole.

The two dedicated haematology wards provide a combined accommodation for over 30 patients with dedicated facilities for Autologous stem cell transplants (JACIE accredited), Designated Hospital for Teenage and Young Adults , Apheresis and intrathecal treatments.

Currently under construction is a state of the art pathology laboratory that will be the hub for Dorset and provide modern facilities for the haematology service, including housing Dorset HMDS within this centre sited at Bournemouth Hospital.

We are heading to an exciting change in our services with a newly built oncology and Haematology ward being provided at the Bournemouth site , purpose built for our patients . The Poole site will continue to provide a busy out patient facility for clinics and chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy.

Dorset is a great place to live and work, with 7 miles of Blue Flag beaches, the Jurassic Coast and the New Forest on its doorstep. Bournemouth and the surrounding area is renowned as being one of the premier resorts in the country for coastal living due to its miles of unspoilt beaches.

Poole Harbour is the world’s second largest natural harbour and in close proximity to the spectacular world heritage Jurassic coastline. There are regular cross channel ferry services to France.

Surrounding areas include the ancient riverside town of Christchurch and also the Isle of Purbeck offering many areas of natural beauty. Both Bournemouth and Poole have a choice of theatres, cinemas and concert halls, including the Bournemouth International Centre and The Lighthouse Theatre which is the home of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

There are a large number of excellent shopping areas nearby as well as numerous restaurants and pubs, both in town and the countryside. A wide variety of sporting and leisure activities are offered among them facilities for golf, tennis, sailing and most watersports. As well as this there many areas to walk, cycle or go riding. There are two leisure complexes adjacent to the Bournemouth Hospital and they offer facilities such as indoor swimming pools, gym/fitness room, squash courts etc. Bournemouth has its own University as well as a number of college sites and further education sites and there are many excellent schools in the area.

The travel time by rail to London (Waterloo) is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes and by road (M27, M3) approximately two hours. Bournemouth has its own airport (just expanded) with an ever-increasing number of both domestic and international flights.

Candidates must be on or eligible for the GMC specialist register, or be within 6 months of entry at time of interview.
