About The Trust:

East Shallowford Farm is a traditional, Dartmoor hill farm with a difference. We work with disadvantaged young people and people in need both as residential and day visitors. We are a home nestled into the moors that aims to catalyse change with people who would not otherwise gain the very essential and profound immersion in nature, with farm animals, home grown and cooked food, mud and walks over the moors whatever the weather. The opportunities we provide at the farm bring self-reflection, enable young people to understand that they are not bound by their ‘known’ environment, encourages empathy, responsibility, resilience, solid work ethics and joy in a challenging environment. We also provide STEM training and general education, with each course being tailored to the need of the group. By exposing each individual to a new reality, we contextualise discussions around Climate Emergency and inform the debate around humanity’s responsibility for the world in which we live.

East Shallowford Farm was opened to visitors from 1976 with the Trust established in 2002 by the founders of the project, Elizabeth Braund MBE and Rosemary Bird MBE as a charitable trust, with a Christian ethos and company limited by guarantee. Generations of visitors return every year to the farm whilst we are now expanding our activities beyond our traditional links with The Providence House Trust, Battersea, South London (www.providence-house.org) to reach out to wider urban and local disadvantaged groups.

The Shallowford Trust is recruiting Youth Farm Volunteer, to join our team from July 2021 for between 3-12 months to work alongside existing staff at an exciting time in the growth of this charity.

The Shallowford Trust works with disadvantaged young people and families as residential and day visitors, delivering programmes on educational farm and outdoor learning.

We are looking for candidates who are adaptable and resilient, ready for a challenge and supportive of the ethos and values of the Shallowford Trust.

The successful candidates will live and work on location at East Shallowford Farm, Widecombe in the Moor, Devon TQ13 7PW.
