Water Impact Manager

GSK has announced new ambitious environmental sustainability goals to have a net zero impact on climate and a net positive impact on nature by 2030 across our entire end to end value chain. We have also mapped our water footprint across our value chain and are now looking for a Water Impact Manager to join the team and lead in the subject matter.

The role of the Water Impact Manager involves leading and enabling the business in reaching its ambitious sustainability goals and is part of the Group Sustainability Team, which brings together environmental experts in support of the GSK targets and commitments. Our commitments are a 2030 climate goal, to be Net Zero carbon emissions across our entire value chain, from discovering new medicines to what happens to a product at the end of its life cycle; and our 2030 Net Positive nature goal, which addresses how we use and impact water, materials and packaging, and our impact on biodiversity. That means reducing our environmental impact as far as possible, investing in restoration programmes to balance the remaining impact we can’t reduce, and aiming to put back into nature more than we take out.

You will be responsible for implementing strategies and programmes to achieve good water stewardship standards across all our sites and enabling the delivery of water neutrality in regions defined as water stressed. You will also work to ensure that Anti Microbial Resistance and Activated Pharmaceutical Ingredient emissions are reduced to Zero. You will work internally with the business units and establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders to ensure the operational delivery and scientific validity of our approach to achieving the 2030 targets, both internally and within the value chain.

You will ensure that GSK has the appropriate policies, standards, guidance, and resources in place to achieve our targets as well as providing specialist insights, intelligence and expertise as the subject matter expert to the wider GSK businesses.

There is remote working flexibility in this role, however you would be expected to be UK based and work at GSK House site periodically.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive the company strategy on water stewardship and water neutrality within GSK and our value chain.
  • Provide thought leadership, technical and market expertise as well as leadership to develop and track key metrics for internal and external (progress) reporting, forecasting and road mapping against our water targets
  • Represent GSK in key external water stewardship organisations and partners and contribute to the external and internal reporting requirements such as CDP and SBTi Nature
  • Develop and provide expertise and insights for APIs and AMRs and their management and impact on our sustainability goals
  • Build internal capacity on water stewardship and water neutrality
  • Deepen the knowledge about product emission scenarios and support relevant functions with insight materials and value propositions for communicating sustainability performance.
  • Provide thought leadership and global intelligence to group, business units and regions with analysis of ongoing Water stewardship and regulatory development and turn them into actionable insights
  • Manage topic-related projects, consultants, and budgets with a high level of autonomy
  • Collaborate internally with Group Sustainability Function and Business Units to enhance performance
  • Collaborate externally to identify and champion opportunities to reduce water risk in the supply chain
  • Maintain the water policy and standards, enabling an aligned Business Unit approach
  • Respond to technical queries and removing technical barriers to delivery, enabling business to achieve and accurately report performance.
  • Deep dive on pertinent risks and external developments impacting delivery of targets.
  • Support the running of the regular subject matter expert forums, training, and communications
  • Track progress against current and maintenance KPIs, forecasting performance
Why you?

Basic Qualifications

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Water Management, Environmental Science, Environment Management, or related fields.
  • Deep knowledge of global water management and stewardship, risk and opportunities for industrial / manufacturing processes, gained form extensive experience in similar roles
  • Experience in business model transformations to facilitate incorporation of water reduction and water stewardship into a sustainability agenda
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to use data to back up assumptions, develop business cases and explain complicated technical matters across different functions and backgrounds
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving, ability to convert strategy to operation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, verbal and written and to present coherent arguments to achieve the desired outcome with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills.
