Job content

This role will include sorting stock and preparing it for the shop floor. Recycling clothes and household items within the local community helps provide the essentials for day to day living without which people cannot sustain themselves. For those in poverty there is often a choice between ’ heating’ and ’eating’, and doing without many of the things others take for granted. Donated clothes / household items provide an important role in easing pressure on household budgets and reducing need for these unenviable choices. Many people in the Borough have spare and unwanted clothes or old furniture or household goods which they would be willing to give away to local people in need. Rummage Rescuers converts this good will in to practical action making it easy to donate. This also promotes community cohesion.

No special skills are needed as training will be given. Many of our previous volunteers have up-skilled and gone onto paid employment, others have reduced their social isolation problems and made lots of new friends.

We offer friendship, mentor-ship and references for those who seek paid or new pathways to employment. All our volunteers are highly valued for the work they do and every month we have volunteer of the month awards.
