Job content

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the interpretation of Pendennis Castle. The Half Moon Battery Guide will lead visitors through an exciting immersive experience. Dressed in WWII costume they will help visitors to step into the military past of Pendennis Castle and understand more about the lives of people stationed here.

We are looking for a confident communicator keen to help our visitors feel the history of the site by telling our story in an engaging way. Although the role is in costume, this is about storytelling rather than re-enacting. No previous experience or qualifications are required, just lots of enthusiasm!
  • Volunteers may be reimbursed for reasonable local travel costs between home and volunteering location
  • A volunteer pass allowing free access to English Heritage sites is available after the completion of four months and 60 hours of volunteering
  • A certificate for your personal profile to demonstrate work carried out for English Heritage is available to show future employers or further education providers.
  • Volunteers will be supplied with an appropriate English Heritage uniform.
  • Core training and role specific training will be given. The Half Moon Battery experience will be in operation on all open days at Pendennis – which is every day March to October and weekends November to February, with additional days for school holidays. Each session will be either 10:30am - 2pm or 2:30pm - 5:45pm. We hope you would be able to volunteer at least 1 day a fortnight or 1 morning/afternoon session per week.
