We are seeking to increase membership of the Board to improve the mix of knowledge, skills and attributes to further MGET’s vision. We are active in the Mersey Estuary (Widnes), local knowledge is desired, but not essential.What will you be doing?Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust (MGET) has been an active Charity for 5 years, looking to conserve, promote and protect the natural environment of the Upper Mersey Estuary. The Board is supporting the staff of the Charity in achieving the following aims
  • To be the Upper Mersey Estuary’s most active and influential wildlife champion;
  • To be a visionary example of environmental management for future major construction projects;
  • To improve the natural environment around the bridge and through the Upper Mersey Estuary on both land and water;
  • To increase the bird and wildlife population of the Upper Mersey Estuary over the next 30 years;
  • To secure additional funding for environmental initiatives in the area over the next 30 years.
The work of MGET is mainly focused on the Upper Mersey Estuary, its natural areas such as saltmarshes, woodlands, grasslands and other green spaces. We support a range of research projects, and have set up our own Biodiversity and Research Board, where we discuss and exchange ideas about adding value.The prospective Trustee has a genuine interest in contributing to the Charity’s aims and objectives, contribute to the Business Plan and explore the funding strategy for MGET. We are looking for Board members who are keen to explore the opportunities the charity sector/environmental sector has to offer and master its challenges such as funding constraints, stakeholder engagement or translating vision into action. It would be ideal if the applicant has previous experience in the charity sector, but this is by no means essential.What are we looking for?The main quality the Trustee should bring to MGET is a genuine interest in the protection and conservation of the natural environment. If one of the selected skills is met, this would be a great addition for MGET.We are looking for someone who has the ability to see the bigger picture and discuss visions and ideas on how to further the charity in reaching its charitable objectives at Board level. The prospective Trustee can contribute in one or more of the selected skills, based on their professional experience or other experience such as volunteering. Your age does not matter, and we welcome applications from all backgrounds.
  • Governance some experience in the charity sector to support the running of the charity in all governance aspects;
  • Funding strategy experience in planning and coordinating both short-term and long-term funded projects;
  • Strategic development and planning experience in translating a business plan into action;
  • Volunteer management experience in setting up a volunteer base for project work in the charity sector;
  • Health and safety experience in supporting staff in all matters regarding policies and risk assessments.
What difference will you make?As a Trustee of MGET you will have the chance to contribute to the vision of environmental protection and nature conservation in the Mersey Estuary. You will contribute to the effort of long-term environmental monitoring, be involved in project on rare habitats such as saltmarsh, be part of research projects furthering the understanding of estuaries and contribute to project ideas.As part of our Board you will support the Trust in achieving its charitable objectives, influencing and seeing through our business plan and discuss and create new ideas and concepts that we can use to further our role in the nature conservation of the Upper Mersey Estuary.This role will supplement the existing skill set on the current board and will bring new ideas to the table.
