Our "Come & Chat" service provides an opportunity for asylum seekers and refugees to practise speaking conversational English or learn basic English in a friendly social setting. As a Come and Chat volunteer you will help asylum seekers and refugees develop their spoken English skills through conversation. Tasks include Helping to set up the room before the session, and clearing away afterwards Welcoming clients as they arrive Encouraging clients to speak in English, giving clients opportunities to talk, engaging in conversations in English and supporting those attending as they develop their fluency in spoken English.

Volunteers will need to be warm, friendly, have good communication skills and be willing to work within a team. We also need you to be: Able to speak good English and willing to lead groups in conversation and/or undertake other elements of the volunteer’s role Aged 18 or over Reliable Willing to uphold the values of MAP Middlesbrough Empathetic about the needs of asylum seekers and refugees, and sensitive to cultural issues, including those related to gender.
