The Post

  • Responsible for supporting the management of Safeguarding and Prevent across
the College ensuring all students feel safe, secure and supported.
  • Promote best practice and full compliance with safeguarding legislation.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To act as a deputy designated safeguarding officer for the college.
  • To mentor and provide pastoral support students
  • To support the development of the college mental health strategy ensuring

students are provided with appropriate support to enable them to be successful.

  • To work in-line with the Local Safeguarding Boards and partners and other Local

Authorities safeguarding boards.

  • To engage with staff and students to embed a keeping safe culture across all

areas of the college including apprenticeships and off-site provision.

  • To manage their own caseload of safeguarding concerns and referrals.
  • To maintain close links with relevant statutory and voluntary services, and

external referral agencies.

  • To ensure that all safeguarding concerns and referrals are responded to

effectively and in a timely manner.

  • To maintain a confidential and accurate record of all disclosures and actions and

ensure all records are kept in accordance with the GDPR.

  • To provide support to teams across the college for students and staff involved in

safeguarding incidents.


  • To ensure that all deadlines are met within timelines expected.
  • To provide support and guidance to staff on appropriate use and the recording of

information on CPOMS, Smoothwall and Pro Monitor involving

safeguarding/behaviour concerns.

  • To ensure that appropriate welfare arrangements are in place to support staff and

students during, and if appropriate following allegations.

  • To monitor risk assessments in relation to safeguarding.
  • To deliver Safeguarding staff induction training and full safeguarding training

including refresher training programmes.

  • To work in line with local authority and national requirements, and provide

updates to the BESafe Manager.

  • To support the BESafe Manager in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of

students, children and vulnerable adults.

  • To carry out the above duties in accordance with the colleges Safeguarding and

Health and Safety Policies.

  • To actively support and promote equality and diversity throughout the college.
  • To comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • To undertake continued professional development (CPD) as required by the post.
  • Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
  • The duties of the post may be varied from time to time in response to changing

circumstances.
