What is the Role?

Right now, Hitachi Capital is going through a period of significant IT transformation and improvement. As a result of our continued evolution we are looking for a Unix Administrator to join our Group IT function.

In this role you will acts as a subject matter expert for the Unix team, providing technical expertise in order to drive high quality, efficient and secure solutions into HCUK infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of technologies on a day to day basis, covering Unix, storage, and backup systems, vulnerability management and a variety of project work.

Some Of Your Key Activities Will Include
  • Operating the Unix Infrastructure across all sites to maintain capacity, availability and performance at levels to meet business requirements and achieve service level targets
  • Responsibility for the installation and testing of hardware/software, in accordance with SLAs, procedures and software licensing conditions
  • Carrying out security backups, housekeeping, preventative maintenance and other operational tasks in accordance with relevant schedules and procedures
  • Maintain measures to prevent unauthorised access to equipment and systems, to prevent virus infection in any of the Unix systems and other known security vulnerabilities
Who are we looking for?

Skills

In addition to the above, we are looking for the following skills and knowledge

You will be a strong team player with hands on experience working in a Unix server environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge in Unix/Linux systems
  • Oracle systems support and a good understanding of Oracle systems
  • Storage and backup experience
  • Exposure to vulnerability management, including patching would be an advantage
  • Technical knowledge of Puppet/Splunk/Qualys would be a bonus
