£30,497to £34,304 per annum (pro-rata if part time), together with USS pension benefits.

The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the scale with annual increments on 1 October each year (subject to completing six months service).


Main purpose of the post


The College of Human and Health Sciences draws together the disciplines of health, nursing, midwifery, osteopathy, social care, social policy and psychology and is the largest provider of health care education in Wales, providing an exciting and dynamic environment in which to study and further an academic or professional career.

The Osteopathy team is a progressive and dynamic part of the College of Human and Health Sciences and Swansea University. Our goal is to provide the highest quality national and internationally recognised osteopathic education, research, and innovation through outstanding, evidence based education.

To deliver its sustainable top 30 position, Swansea University is seeking to appoint a Tutor to teach and supervise students in the College of Human and Health Sciences. Based in the Department of Inter-professional Health Studies, the successful candidate will make a substantive contribution to the teaching of osteopathic education.

The post will involve contribution to teaching and student assessment and supervision in Osteopathy, at undergraduate level.

The successful candidate will be given support to further their academic and professional development.

  • Teach as a member of a teaching team in a developing capacity within an established programme of study in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures. Transfer knowledge in the form of practical skills, methods and techniques with the assistance of a mentor if required, challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking.
  • With support, develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches and select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria; Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback. Reflect on practice and the development of own teaching and learning skills
  • Identify the learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives and give constructive feedback to students as required, provide advice on study skills and assist with learning problems
  • As well as carrying out teaching as required on modules that have already been developed the Tutor will review the modules in the light of the learning needs of students and define learning objectives and will design or select appropriate assessment methods
  • To provide osteopathic care in the University’s clinics and to provide clinical supervision of students in practice.
  • Keep informed of developments in the field in both osteopathy terms and the wider subject area and the implication for academia.
  • Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration
  • Participate in and undertake other research or administrative activities appropriate to their experience and skill, and as directed by the Head of the Department or such other person delegated to act with their authority.
  • To ensure that risk management is an integral part of any decision making process, by ensuring compliance with the University’s Risk Management Policy.
  • To promote equality and diversity in working practices and maintain positive working relationships
  • To conduct the job role and all activities in accordance with safety, health and sustainability policies and management systems, in order to reduce risks and impacts arising from the work activity

A satisfactory DBS certificate must be provided before a start date can be confirmed.

Terms and Conditions of Employment


Hours: 21 per week.

Annual leave: 31 days per annum plus Bank Holidays (pro rata for part time staff)

The salary will be on the Grade 7 salary scale for Academic and related Staff.

The appointment is subject to the General Terms of Appointment for Academic and related Staff.
