Based at Vale Head Farm, Kinver (Operated by Glasshouse College, Stourbridge)

The Glasshouse College provides innovative and experiential education and training for young people marginalised by disadvantage, exclusion or special learning needs. Inspired by Rudolf Steiner, William Morris and John Ruskin, the college actively promotes the industrial heritage of the Black Country, craftsmanship and entrepreneurship in traditional and contemporary industry and crafts.

We are seeking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic and professional tutor to support the Biodynamic Land team to deliver high quality tuition to groups of students of mixed abilities at Vale Head Farm, which is a 32 acre, biodynamic mixed farm in Kinver, Near Stourbridge.

Key duties in this role will include the delivery of the curriculum to young people with social and learning difficulties and also;

  • To be responsible for delivering a curriculum covering aspects of animal husbandry and farm stock which embodies the Ruskin Mill Trust method of Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE).
  • Deliver teaching and training with a therapeutic and supportive approach in line with the Trust method of PSTE, to include delivery of qualifications, where appropriate and in line with student need.
  • To instil enthusiasm and enjoyment into the learning process in such a way that can lead to increased self-esteem and enhanced engagement in learning.
  • To undertake an ongoing assessment of student progress and learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required, in order to minimise barriers to learning and achievement.

To undertake this position successfully you will have;

  • Experience of working with working with young people and vulnerable adults with special needs, challenging behaviours and mental health difficulties;
  • A teaching qualification or be willing to train towards a teaching qualification;
  • In this role you must be prepared to undertake the Biodynamic Training - “Growing the Land, Growing People” course which is fully funded by Ruskin Mill Trust.
  • A willingness to work flexibly - some weekend and evening work will be required to support the farm operation
  • Experience of animal husbandry.
  • The ability to reimagine potential and possess an ambitious outlook in respect of our students’ abilities.
