Travel Underwriter (Part-Time, Job-Share and Full-Time)

Location: We’re flexible! Occasional travel to our London and Fareham will be required

The opportunity:

Following exciting growth in the Personal Lines Travel Underwriting book of business, we are looking for a Travel Underwriter to join our team on a permanent basis. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in our Personal Lines Travel Underwriting. If you’re an experienced Underwriter and looking for a new challenge or experience, this role could be for you!

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Travel Underwriter, you will contribute towards the following:

  • The assessment and underwriting of new and renewal business within underwriting appetite and agreed underwriting authority and guidelines (the business is primarily personal lines travel and includes car hire excess insurance {CDW} and individual accident & health programmes). Business is written on a direct basis, via aggregators, Delegated Authority Agreements and MGA’s.
  • Supporting the business with the response to tenders where appropriate.
  • Implementation of agreed underwriting and/or rating changes for all distribution channels.
  • Monitoring the performance of the business in conjunction with the travel portfolio analyst and making appropriate underwriting and pricing recommendations to manage performance.
  • Responding to case level underwriting referrals both internally and externally as appropriate
  • Researching target markets and assisting with Product Oversight and Governance.
  • Development of new and updating of existing policy wordings
  • New proposition development
  • Assisting with implementation of new programs and projects and as required from time to time.

Your skills and experience:

  • Good knowledge and experience of underwriting principles.
  • Understanding of the personal line’s insurance market.
  • Understanding of current legal and regulatory requirements relevant to underwriting.
  • Awareness of the financial dynamics of a personal line’s portfolio (i.e. expense allocation, return on capital requirements and the like)
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, negotiations and customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to produce innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem solving and analysis.
  • Superior verbal & written communication skills.
  • Proactive and able to manage a diverse workload.
