Shaping tomorrow’s talent as the Training Quality Assurance Manager for the Fire Service College:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quality Manager or IQA to join our busy and fast paced team at the Fire Service College in Moreton in Marsh. The successful applicant will work as part of the Learning Delivery and Transformation Team liaising closely with Senior Managers, Curriculum Team Leaders, Operational Managers as well as other key stakeholders both internally and externally.

You will work with colleagues across the College to ensure excellent management of quality assurance processes, the continuous development of outstanding teaching, learning and assessment. You will also drive the development and improvement in quality and pedagogy across the College. To be successful in this role you will need to be able to balance innovation and development with performance and accountability to achieved sustainable improvement and support and motivate the training of colleagues to use creative e-learning approaches.

What you will be doing:


  • Produce and update the College’s Quality Assurance Plan and ensure that checks are undertaken, and data produced.
  • Review the structure and approach to the developing training programmes making amendments so they exceed the quality requirements of the relevant industry awarding bodies.
  • Undertake regular appraisals of teaching and quality systems to ensure that they remain efficient, integrated, fit for purpose and in line with quality assurance practices, current sector guidance and best practice.
  • Develop consistent, exceptional teaching and assessment practice across all programmes including contributing to the development of innovative approaches, where such initiatives can be successfully embedded and replicated.
  • Lead on the College’s self-assessment review and quality improvement plans, and ensure the College is well prepared for external quality assurance visits, including Ofsted.
  • Maintain relationships with the awarding bodies, wider Capita Apprenticeships Team and professional bodies and lead on all centre visits, implementing improvement where required.
  • Review and monitor progress across all College action plans in response to internal and external reports - for example accrediting bodies, awarding bodies, and Ofsted.

What we are looking for:


  • Broader quality understanding of accreditation, short course and quality in commercial setting
  • Experience of managing external awarding bodies or dealing with the outcome of quality audits that will be central to this role
  • Able to intervene poor quality environment in short course environment
  • Experience of working in a regulated education environment, preferably work-based learning or technical training, within a quality focused role.
  • Experience in a similar role, and / or with a Quality Manager or Lead IQA background
  • A comprehensive understanding of assessment and verification standards.
  • Good presentation, verbal and written communication skills and techniques, with an ability to deliver training within large groups
  • Ability to communicate, influence and promote quality at all levels within the organisation
  • Highly organised and able to adapt to a complex and dynamic working environment
