Trainer/Assessor – ILM and Business Administration (Hourly Paid)

The role:

Due to the continued expansion of the College’s work with employers, the College is seeking to employ a Trainer/Assessor in Leadership & Management and Business Administration with the ability to assess on one or more of the following apprenticeships: Operations or Departmental manager, Team Leader, Business & Administration at levels 3, 4 & 5.
The ideal candidate will also have a range of Leadership, Management and Business operations experience. The role is flexible, with an allocation of learners to be agreed based on availability.

Responsible to:

The postholder is responsible to the Curriculum Manager.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

➢ To carry out training and assessment in the workplace and give constructive feedback to candidates.

➢ To ensure all assessment activities are in line with awarding body standards.

➢ To support the recruitment activities of the Workforce Development Department.

➢ To conduct the sign up process of learners to the intended programme.

➢ To offer a comprehensive Information, Advice, Guidance and pastoral support service to individual candidates, liaising with Student Services as appropriate.

➢ To carry out health and safety audits of learners’ workplaces and monitor their working environment to ensure compliance with health and safety expectations and recommendations.

➢ To deliver an induction programme and develop the candidates’ individual learning plan, including skills for life assessment and Health and Safety requirements, in line with college procedures.

➢ To conduct regular student reviews, liaising with employers, in line with college procedures.

➢ To develop customised learning materials as appropriate.

➢ To provide and work within a framework of Equal Opportunities and Anti Discriminatory
Practices.

➢ To complete Awarding Body and other relevant documentation relating to achievement.

➢ To attend standardisation meetings for Assessors and provide feedback relating to peripatetic assessment.

➢ To liaise with Internal Verifiers and provide appropriate feedback.

➢ To contribute to Internal Verification activities.

➢ To maintain accurate records of activities carried out within job role and to meet requests for information in a timely manner.

➢ To liaise and communicate effectively with English, maths and ICT tutors as appropriate

➢ To undertake continuous professional development as required for the role and inform the curriculum area of industry developments.

➢ To update ProSolution and reporting documents as necessary to record contact with learners and employers.

➢ To carry out any other duties which may be required from time to time and which are commensurate with the post.

The above duties are indicative of the requirements of the post at the time of recruitment. It is management policy that roles and responsibilities are reviewed on a regular basis leading to possible modifications where appropriate. Staff may be asked to undertake other duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with the post, at the initial place of work or at other locations from which the College operates.

Qualifications and Attainments: Essential/Desirable & Method of Assessment

Possession of a Level 4 qualification in the relevant vocational area as a minimum E A

Possession of a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (or a willingness to undertake training and qualification as directed by line manager)E A

Assessor awards (A units or equivalent or a willingness to undertake training and qualification as directed by the line manager)E A

Internal Verifier awards (V Units or equivalent) or a willingness to work towards. D A

CIEH Level 3 Risk Assessment Principles and Practice qualification, or equivalent (or a willingness to work towards) D A

Experience

Recent relevant industrial experience in the curriculum area at an appropriate level E A/I

Experience of assessing candidates in the workplace E A/I

Experience of liaising with employers E A/I

Experience of supporting learners through the EPA process with successful outcomes D A/I

Experience of liaising with exam boards for the purpose of external quality assurance D A/I

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

Salary:

£12.32 per hour

Summary of Terms and Conditions of Employment:

The candidate should be a car owner and must be prepared to travel to individual workplaces. An appropriate mileage allowance will be paid.

The postholder is entitled to claim for every hour of contact with learners. Contact time includes all types of contact with learners – in a classroom situation, delivering training or in a workplace situation. Learner sign-ups includes completion of all documentation, conducting a skills scan and initial assessments and will be allocated 2 hours per sign-up. Each hour claimed for contact time and sign-ups assumes an additional hour of administration including travel time, attendance at meetings and completion of documentation, tracking of learners etc.

Other duties (such as attendance at staff development) claimed for should not therefore include any of the administration associated with contact or sign-ups.

The caseload of learners per annum be allocated based on the number of hours allocated per learner in a given curriculum area.

The weekly pattern of hours to be worked are commensurate with the needs of the College.

The postholder will be entitled to receive normal remuneration for all Bank and Public Holidays usually observed in England and Wales and to a further 38 days holiday in each holiday year (1 September - 31 August).

Evening and/or early morning duty will be necessary during August, September and January for enrolment/examination registration and general enquiries. Annual leave may not be taken from 20 August until 30 September.

The post holder will be eligible to contribute automatically to the Local Government Pension Scheme (subject to qualifying conditions). Details of the scheme in operation can be found in the vacancies area of the College’s website.

During their employment with the College the post holder will be expected to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the professional image of the College. They will be expected to provide a prompt and efficient service and to maintain appropriate standards of personal appearance at all times.
