6am-3:15pm / 9:35am-6:50pm / 12:45pm-10pm / 9:15pm-6:30am / 6am-6:20pm / 6pm-6:20am

Our logistics team are responsible for keeping everything moving. They ensure that millions of pieces of mail are delivered on time every year across the UK and internationally.

Without logistics we simply wouldn’t be able to function. The physical transportation of mail is what we do.


About the role

In order Royal Mail to run a safe, efficient and cost-effective fleet, the Traffic Office Assistant would be expected to carry out the following tasks:

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ensure that the Isotrack Management System (vehicle tracking) is kept up to date and data correctly inputted daily and all drivers are de-briefed at the end of their duty.
  • Ensure that CDU/FTA, the system used to record our drivers’ hours, is kept up to date and data correctly inputted daily in order to ensure that we comply with European Legislation.
  • Issuing of vehicle keys and logbooks in line with Royal Mail standards.
    Ensure digital tacho cards are downloaded in line with Royal Mail policy.
    Daily debrief to be carried out with all drivers, any unresolved issues to be passed onto shift manager.
  • Ensure all vehicles issued are roadworthy and within inspection, planned vehicle maintenance is carried out and that the maintenance board and vehicle files are kept up to date. Liaise with vehicle workshops with regard to getting VOR’s back in service as quickly as possible
  • Complete Yard/Trailer audits
  • Trailer Tracking Compliance in line with current business operating practice
  • General office Administration tasks as directed


Full Training will be provided.

1x vacancy for 5 days Monday-Sunday.

Driving licence requirements

A full UK manual driving licence (in your current UK address), with no more than six penalty points is essential, but a clean licence is preferred. Please note you will be required to show this at assessment.


Key Skills

  • Knowledge of safety and legal requirements, including drivers’ hours legislation, vehicle checks, Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments and accident investigation
  • Ability to deal with customer issues in a timely manner and under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with team, customers, other transport offices and CPC.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement or willingness to learn, data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn to efficiently and effectively use a variety PC software packages.

Experience

  • Experience of administrative work, preferably within a transport office.
  • Experience with multiple computer software packages: Microsoft Word, Excel are essential.
  • Industry experience and working knowledge of the mails and PFW operations.
  • Some experience of leading teams is preferred.
