Job Purpose


This role is a key enabler in allowing RMG to take technical leadership of its capability to build high quality software solutions that can operate at enterprise scale with significant transaction volumes, users and data. The Lead Software Engineer will bring strong software engineering capabilities to bear to influence the design and implementation of enterprise software solutions whilst also bringing line management and leadership skills to enable the wider software engineering team to deliver innovative software in a timely manner.


This role will be 50% split between team management/team mentoring and 50% hands on development. You will operate and think at a more strategic level


In this role you will be:


  • Responsible for the design of software solutions in a complex IT estate
  • Responsible for helping build, lead and retain a multi-disciplined team based on enterprise technologies
  • Managing the software engineering team ensuring appropriate training, support and personal development
  • Able to set up Agile development teams and ensure appropriate monitoring and reporting is available on progress
  • Applying architectural and engineering concepts to implement solutions that meet business requirements, considering scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, flexibility, availability and manageability
  • Able to create and interpret technical architectures using standard tools and techniques for modelling
  • Identify the technologies to employ and take responsibility for the delivery of software solutions
  • Assurance of supplier solutions to ensure compliance with requirements and procurements

Qualifications and experience required:



  • Expert developer on Java with experience of integration into a diverse range of platforms and services including EAI, remote resources, data storage, messaging, solution accelerators, frameworks and 3rd party libraries
  • Ability to develop extensible, testable and maintainable code
  • Strong experience mentoring or leading colleagues
  • Working knowledge within a DevOps and cloud environment
  • Track record in delivering high volume, low latency distributed software solutions
  • Is familiar with current programing paradigms and patterns (incl. SOLID, IoC and Dependency Injection)
  • Is following trends in the software industry roadmap with interest
  • Comfortable working in a variety of development methodologies, particularly agile development methodologies
  • Ability to influence the technology, standards and tooling choices that will positively contribute to solution delivery
  • Experience in solution delivery including analysis, design, implementation, testing and support
