An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Tutor to join the staff of the School of Film & Television on a fixed term basis. We are looking for a new team member who is able to transfer knowledge of the technical considerations; and equally as importantly, the craft of camera and lighting operation/cinematography to our students. You will prepare taught academic and technical sessions and presentations, training documentation and other learning media in support of the learning process.

You will also evaluate and assess academic and technical performance, provide feedback and record relevant competences, in ways which will inform records of achievement. You will also provide technical advice, demonstration and support for all stakeholders, including students and academic staff in general and specific workshop/studio practice, use of equipment, materials, processes, techniques, assisting users in realising conceptual ideas practically.

The ideal candidate will have substantial recent demonstrable craft experience in camera and lighting operation/cinematography. We welcome applications from individuals who have, or are currently fulfilling a similar role at a higher education institution, but equally we welcome applications from those who are fulfilling, or have experience of these skillsets acquired from an industrial background - eg. this could be derived from working as a practitioner and operator within the film & television industry on wide range of productions.

Technically, you will have operational experience of broadcast, digital and 16mm film camera equipment such as Arri Alexa, Canon XF305/C500/C100, RED Gemini & Scarlet, Sony FS7, A7s HXC-FB80 and 16mm Arri SR3. You will also have craft experience of lighting operation in support of film & television production, both on location and on shooting stages with both hot and LED lighting systems. This includes the selection and rigging of lights according to production requirements. A knowledge of multi camera TV studio and gallery operation including vision mixing and lighting desk operation would be a distinct advantage, as would experience of working in Production Design, including fabrication and decoration of, and raising and striking of sets.

This is a full time, fixed term opportunity working 35 hours a week across Monday-Friday. The position is term time only until Friday 10th December 2021.
