We are currently looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Technical Director to enhance our technical expertise and to define and progress our strategic growth and innovation agenda.

Job Description
As a Technical Director (TD) in our Site Evaluation & Restoration (SER) team you will be an integrated member of our award-winning UK business dedicated to investigating, assessing, and managing every aspect of the below ground environment.

As a leader in our diverse and inclusive team, you will be responsible for developing client focused end-to-end solutions- developing and delivering strategies for investigation, assessment, and management of challenging scenarios across every sector of the UK market.

We are looking for a TD to lead on varied geo-environmental projects including remediation technologies, risk assessment, development constraints, safety, regulatory liaison and project closure. Experience of large-scale regeneration/urban development would be advantageous as would an appreciation of multi-disciplinary working. Using your strategic insight and market awareness you will make key contributions to the evolving SER growth strategy including investment planning, proposition development, marketing and recruitment

Client engagement is a key skill and building collaborative relationships with our internal engineering teams, being able to develop and maintain relationships with our existing clients or facing into the external market to generate new opportunities will be part of the role. Notwithstanding, we recognise that overall business development to deliver the underlying SER growth strategy is a shared responsibility and the successful candidate will have significant support in a fully collaborative environment.

The SER team works closely with our global colleagues to share knowledge and collaborate on projects all over the world.

There is flexibility as to your choice of location within the UK, and you can select any of the following offices- Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Guildford, Leeds, London or Manchester. This position is open full-time or part-time.

Your Day-to-Day
  • Engage with clients and all key stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of project objectives and to establish protocols for working together.
  • Guide clients through the technical decision-making process and provide alternative solutions if there are changes to project parameters.
  • Work collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall project.
  • Develop strong, partnering relationships with senior client personnel to identify and resolve issues, to identify business opportunities and to influence their decision making.
  • Lead the preparation of high-quality winning bids.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the SER team and the ongoing improved performance of our dedicated ground investigation service line, with major headcount, service and geographic growth anticipated
  • Develop and propose potential solutions, including solutions that fall outside the standard codes where appropriate, to meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Lead the delivery of projects (where necessary) ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues.
  • Coach and mentor specialist professionals to support the development of the whole Arcadis talent pool.
  • Keep up to date with technical and legislative developments in the industry sector and seek out opportunities to develop a strong and credible professional profile (e.g. conference presentations, publications and participation in technical committees)
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, of our clients’ business and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and to consolidate personal and company credibility in the industry.

Requirements

  • BSc qualified (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Engineering Geology, Environmental Science or similar.
  • Chartered professional status.
  • Proven track record of working at a managerial level in geo-environmental projects working on complex brownfield site and/or large portfolio management
  • Strong technical knowledge of all aspects of the geo-environmental market including remediation technologies, risk assessment, development constraints, safety, regulatory liaison and project closure.
  • Experience in managing business relationships at senior management level.
  • Experience in mentoring team members to a high level.
  • Recognised as distinguished or an expert in your field with well-established industry networks.
  • Strong market understanding of environmental and/or engineering consultancy services
  • Experience of large-scale regeneration/urban development would be advantageous as would an appreciation of multi-disciplinary working.
