Main Purpose of the Post


The Grounds Team Leader will work alongside the Grounds team on either the Bay or Singleton Campuses or other areas owned by the University to ensure daily tasks are completed to standard and the role holder will have additional responsibility for supervising and overseeing the work of the Grounds team.

Services will be provided 7 days a week and shift patterns will vary depending on the levels of business.

  • Supervise Grounds Staff to achieve the completion of work schedules to standards set by the Grounds Manager. These will be in areas of both soft and hard landscaping and tasks will include soil cultivation, site preparation, planting, pruning, hedge cutting, sowing, grass cutting and tree planting, weed control, sweeping, fencing and pathway maintenance. The Grounds Team Leader will also participate in these tasks as a working member of the team.
  • Supervise Grounds Staff in litter clearing and beach cleaning tasks and emptying of bins to ensure the campuses are clean, well presented and litter free. They will also participate in these tasks as a working member of the team.
  • Supervise Grounds Staff in the use of equipment to include hand tools, pressure washers, lawnmowers, wood chippers, chainsaws, tractors, ride on mowers, road vehicles and trailers and other grounds maintenance equipment. The role holder will ensure that daily maintenance and pre checks of equipment are carried out by operators, including the completion of HAV monitoring forms.
  • Ensuring Health and safety standards applicable to grounds maintenance operations are observed.
  • Assisting with some aspects of the induction and training of new staff and the updating of training of current staff, including giving toolbox talks on grounds equipment and machinery.
  • To act as Duty Supervisor for our services and facilities
