The Job Responsibilities

Purpose of Function

The main purpose of the role is to lead a team of mechanical engineers within the R&D environment to achieve departmental targets and goals.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. All employees have a responsibility to comply with the Integrated Management System (IMS) and minimise any impact on the environment whilst carrying out their duties. (Do not remove)

2. Lead and develop a team of mechanical engineers, liaising directly with the Head of Mechanical design on skills, training and career development of assigned team.

3. Plan and manage resources and budgets

4. Provide engineering excellence support for Life Cycle activities and development projects

5. Cooperate and build relationships with internal and external partners (e. g. other functions in the company, approval agencies, suppliers)

6. Support the Head of Mechanical Engineering to define and implement technology strategies

7. Support internal Draeger standardization committee, to enable changes in product standards into current product portfolio.

8. Support Head of Product Data group, Developing and maintain effective and efficient engineering change control procedures (DCR’s), driving improvements in this area of life cycle activities.

9. Advise current product design issues into new projects during the project requirements phase.

10. Engineering Lead in transferring new product design releases into the life cycle group, responsible for assessment and feedback during the Draeger NPD process of Gate 7 to gate 8 evaluation.

11. Network with approval agencies

Additional roles.

Must be willing to travel internationally and on occasion with short notice.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelors or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Leadership experience with at least small teams in a technical environment is essential
  • Six sigma green belt desirable
  • Knowledge of project management desirable
  • Must be able to effectively assess and troubleshoot technical problems
  • Willingness to take on and learn new technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent facilitation and training skills
  • Strong passion for people management
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to handle conflicts within and outside field of personal responsibility
  • Ability to inspire team; influencing skills; employees enjoy working in department
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time management
