About The Role

The Group Executive Committee has an ambitious 5-year strategy with several concurrent business change projects as a critical delivery arm of this strategy. The role will be part of EMEA’s transformation delivery team and you will be deployed to large scale projects as required.

Reporting to the Head of Projects (EMEA), you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the strategy through prioritised work to achieve business benefits.

Responsible for the end-to-end management of EMEA, multi-functional projects aligned to the delivery of the Group’s strategic change agenda. The skill set is transferable, and you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects throughout the organisation.

Key accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the end-to-end management (planning, delivery, monitoring, control and closure) of projects with focus on business change – ensuring delivery to agreed scope, time, cost, quality and benefits.
  • Provide leadership to, and facilitate the work of, cross-functional project teams. Ensure team members remain motivated and committed to the project objectives whilst balancing the demands of any Business As Usual (BAU) commitments.
  • Translate the approved Project Definition into a workable plan with an agreed budget and accountable for managing the project budget throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Agree the appropriate governance approach and ensure it is applied to the project. Plan and schedule quality reviews, ensuring the relevant people attend, project deliverables are produced on time to the required standard, and any corrective actions addressed.
  • Produce a Resource Plan and work with the appropriate Resource Managers to implement.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into project management software.
  • Where required, facilitate making trade off decisions within the project between scope, time, cost and quality. Ensure any significant changes are subject to the change control process.
  • Engage fully across the Portfolio to ensure its overall success and the commercial goals are being achieved – provide regular project updates, escalate issues and concerns.
  • Identify and manage inter-project dependencies, ensuring visibility, with plans to resolve, and managed through with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure all risks and issues are collected, analysed, and where necessary mitigated or escalated.
  • Engage fully with the relevant project Sponsor and Business Owner. Influence and manage stakeholder expectations by monitoring progress against the plan and issuing regular communications, escalating problems and issues that impact scope, time, cost, quality and benefits in a timely manner
  • Manage external delivery partners and contractors when required.
  • Agree and implement vendor engagement plans with the Indirect Procurement team, ensuring compliance with Group purchasing policies
  • Contribute to the Strategic Change Centre of Excellence by providing coaching and support to staff external to the team in Project Management skills & techniques
  • Engage the support and guidance of Project Management colleagues to facilitate appropriate decision making
  • Opportunity for line management of Apprenticeship Project Managers providing leadership, mentoring and coaching

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven Project Management experience leading and managing multiple projects and stakeholders with a track record of delivering business change to achieve outcomes and benefits
  • Experience of working in the relevant business environment (Digital, Supply Chain, Distribution, Finance, Infrastructure)
  • More than 5 Years hands-on delivery experience, understands why organisations use Agile/waterfall/hybrid practices as well how to use them
  • Strong team facilitation skills - able to manage and motivate people at all levels in the organisation
  • Remains calm during periods of pressure and / or when dealing with issues
  • Naturally curious about acquiring new knowledge and best practice
  • Experience working in a software delivery environment
  • Good coaching skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, able to work across functions, geographies and cultures
  • Able to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels of the Business and to various stakeholder groups, both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to challenge constructively, build credibility and work with integrity at all levels within the organisation
