The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research Libraries and the third largest academic library in the UK. Our vast and rich collections (both print and increasingly digital) help us to deliver a world-class library and information service for the University of Manchester. While our primary objective is to meet the learning, research and teaching needs of University members, we are also fully committed to widening access to our services to individual researchers, local schools and others in the regional community.

We are looking to recruit a Stock Operations Assistant (Driver) to assist in the movement and maintenance of book stock within the library. Duties include the weeding, moving, packing, cleaning, shelving, shelf-checking and relabeling of book stock, as well as checking and updating catalogue records. You will be required to assist with the transportation of stock using Library vehicles and to work at various library sites including stores in Salford and Pin Mill Brow.

You will need to demonstrate the ability to handle, move and shelve books according to Dewey Decimal classification promptly and accurately using appropriate aids (e.g. trolleys, lifts) and to undertake other physical tasks associated with the role. Experience of working both unsupervised and as part of a large team is also essential. The successful candidate must possess a clean driving licence and be willing to drive a library van. In your application please address each of the criteria in the person specification in turn and supply examples of how you meet them.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.

Blended working arrangements may be considered.

Please note that we are unable to respond to enquiries, accept CVs or applications from Recruitment Agencies.
