Job Summary

Do you have a passion for working with young children and the drive to work with families to support children with their speech language and communication development? Then come and join our enthusiastic Speech and Language team working in the Family Wellbeing Centres in Brent.

We are seeking a full time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join a well established team working in preventative practice and early intervention for children with speech language and communication needs (0-5 years).

We are looking for a self motivated, empathetic and organised person who will support families to access early advice around communication development and work in partnership with other professionals in identifying speech, language and communication needs.

The Family Wellbeing Centres SLT team works collaboratively as part of the wider Speech and Language Therapy service in the London Borough of Brent. The post holder will also work collaboratively with the wider Family Wellbeing Centres located in 8 centres across this very diverse borough

Main duties of the job

  • To support the delivery of SLT into Family Wellbeing Centres across Brent.
  • To run regular universal group sessions with families to provide advice and support to parents around the prevention and early identification of speech, language and communication needs.
  • To have day to day responsibility for promoting speech and language development within the Family Wellbeing Centres and within the wider community of Brent through outreach and partnership working.
  • To deliver training to parents and enhance the skills of the wider workforce around Speech, Language and Communication development with support from the Speech and Language Therapists.
  • To follow departmental guidelines/standards to independently support the work of the therapists, Eg supporting the running of training sessions, preparing materials and resources.
  • To provide some clinical administrative support to therapists.

Job Description Job Responsibilities

The post holder will assist SLTs in providing a service to individuals and groups of children with a range of speech, language and communication, eating and drinking difficulties and Special Educational Needs (SEN). He/she will work predominately with pre-school children in Family Wellbeing Centres, clinics, nurseries and other and other early years settings.

Qualifications

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

  • Recognised NVQ, NNEB or equivalent qualification
  • Short courses in development of speech, language and communication e.g. ELKLAN

Desirable

  • Educated to GCSE and / or A level or equivalent
