Job Overview

We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity to become a part of the elderly care service at Chorley District General Hospital. We are committed to the provision of first class care and would encourage you to take the opportunity to join us.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to work at registrar level in Elderly medicine at Chorley Hospital alongside 3 Consultant Geriatricians, 2 middle grades and a team of CMT/ GPST and FY1 doctors.

You will gain experience in acute elderly medicine and out patients; and will be expected to see speciality referrals with consultant support. There will be opportunities to develop skills in stroke rehabilitation, falls, dementia, Parkinson’s disease and frailty.

Subspecialty interests are encouraged and can be arranged in movement disorders, palliative care and old age psychiatry liaison.

There will be opportunities to perform procedures, develop communication skills (including obtaining collateral histories and advance care planning) and participate in multidisciplinary team working.

In addition you will have the opportunity to teach 4th year undergraduate students during their “Ageing and complex health module”, 5th year during clinical placement and junior doctors working in Elderly Medicine.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice with GMC
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP Part 1
Desirable criteria
  • Full MRCP
  • Valid ALS
Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least three years working in hospital medicine following primary medical qualification
  • At least 2 years working in general internal medicine or a medical speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of core medical training or equivalent
  • Experience in Geriatrics
  • Computer Literacy
  • Experience of required practical procedures
Skills
