SPECIALISED THERAPY ASSISTANT

ACUTE AND COMMUNITY STROKE THERAPY TEAM

Band 3

18.75 hours per week.

This post is an exciting opportunity to work within a well-established multi-disciplinary team, it is a trustwide post working at North Tees and Hartlepool Hospital, and in the Community Stroke Teams. Initially the post will be based in Hartlepool Community Stroke Team in the University Hospital of Hartlepool.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual interested in providing therapy interventions to patients following acute stroke. You will deliver a range of therapy interventions; including communication, swallowing, physical and functional therapeutic activities.

Main duties of the job

You will work under the supervision of qualified therapists to deliver a range of high quality interventions to patients. Specifically this will involve Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. The post holder will be required to work as part of the generic assistant team and will include weekend working on the Acute Stroke Unit.

Driving licence and access to a vehicle essential for this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work under the direction of Therapists to implement the planned interventions either within the hospital or in the appropriate community setting; this may include simple environmental assessments and the prescription of simple equipment (as deemed within competence) or practice of specific therapeutic interventions / techniques. The post holder will communicate effectively with community services to assist in the planning of safe and effective discharge. The post holder will assist therapists carry out administrative duties associated with the delivery of services.

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
Experience

  • Broad range of medical conditions in particular stroke
  • Ability to demonstrate simple equipment and therapeutic activities used in stroke

Skills

  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle
