Merthyr Tydfil Community Learning Disability Team has a vacancy for a Specialist Band 6 Physiotherapist.

The Learning Disability Service of the Primary Care + Community Group of Swansea Bay University Health Board provides a service to adults with a Learning Disability across 3 Health Boards and 7 local authorities. Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board commission their Learning Disability services from Swansea Bay Health Board.

We are seeking a Specialist Physiotherapist to join the well established Community Learning Disability Team in Merthyr Tydfil. The team is comprised of Community Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology and Psychiatry and works in close partnership with local authority colleagues and partnership organisations.

The team is committed to the delivery of user focused services to improve the health and well-being of the population.

The post will offer:

  • An opportunity to develop skills and work collaboratively with service users, families, carers, partnership agencies, the multi-disciplinary team and Delivery Unit services.
  • A supportive environment that will enhance clinical and supervisory skills through work based practice, training, commitment to CPD, clinical effectiveness, audit, research and peer support.
  • Established and structured processes for Clinical, Professional and Management Supervision and for Personal Development Review.
  • A lead clinical / developmental role within the Team and across the Delivery Unit Physiotherapy profession.
  • People management skills in the supervision of staff and delegation of duties.
  • An opportunity to be a clinical educator for Physiotherapy students on placement and to contribute to formal student lectures.

You will need:

  • To be looking for career development within a rewarding and challenging environment.
  • Substantial post graduate experience as a practicing clinician with broad theoretical knowledge; a range of clinical experiences, community and multi disciplinary team working and experience of the implementation of 24 hour posture management.
  • To be a key Team player, providing information for and contributing to people and service development and quality improvements at a local and Delivery Unit wide professional basis.
  • To have excellent communication skills, an ability to delegate duties and to carry out the day to day supervision of junior physiotherapy staff and support workers.
  • To be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of the NHS modernisation agenda, the framework of Clinical Governance, the principles of caseload management, care pathways, evidence based practice, outcome measures, audit, and research aiming to achieve the best outcome for clients and the service as a whole.
  • A commitment to own and others’ CPD, organising and delivering training, partaking in and delivering Clinical Supervision and PADR.
  • An understanding of legislation and professional requirements relevant to people with a Learning Disability, to the Swansea Bay University Health Board, Delivery Unit and Physiotherapy profession.

Experience of working with people who have a learning disability is desirable, but not wholly essential therefore applicants who can demonstrate relevant experience in other clinical specialties and a specific interest in Learning Disabilities may also be considered.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
