Summary

The Defence School of Communication and Information Systems (DSCIS), located at Blandford Camp, Dorset, delivers Information Technology (IT) and Communications Information Systems (CIS) training to Defence personnel.

We have a vacancy for Bowman systems trainer.
We are particularly interested in candidates from an engineering or technical background in Radio Communication Systems and in particular BOWMAN radio system.

Qualities
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative and capable of inspiring young service personnel from diverse backgrounds.

SI-4 Coach and mentor trainees within a vocational training environment.

Technical knowledge is paramount as training will be provided to enable successful candidate to carry out their role as a trainer in accordance with Defence Systems Approach to Training and the Defence Trainer Capability Framework.
Candidates will be expected to deliver a short presentation on one of the above subject areas to assess candidate suitability to deliver training and sit a short answer examination of their technical knowledge.

New entrants to MoD Civil Service are subject to satisfactory completion of six-month probation period.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The key tasks of the Specialist Instructional Officer (SIO) are as follows:

a. Training Delivery. Deliver technical theory and practical training in compliance with Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT), Specialist Instructional Officers (SIO) Management Practices Document (MPD) and Defence Train the Trainer (DTtT).

b. Training Delivery. Maintain a safe training environment conducive to learning in compliance with SIO MPD

c. Training Delivery. Maintain own Subject Matter Expertise, undertake Continuous Professional Development as directed, in compliance with MOD Civil Service policy, SIO MPD.

d. Training Quality Assurance. Contribute to maintenance of training quality through Course Review Working Groups and Staff and trainee feedback in accordance with JSP 822, DSAT, SIO MPD.

e. Training Quality Assurance. Maintain Training Delivery Documentation (lesson specification, lesson plans and lesson content including delivery media) in accordance with DSAT process.

f. Training Quality Assurance. Maintain integrity of training documentation, training Methods and Media inclusive of training aides. Ensure control, accountability and safekeeping of sensitive material and equipment used in delivery of training.

g. Training Quality Assurance. Contribute to training delivery quality assurance audits and Internal Validation in accordance with JSP 822, Civil Service Success Profiles, Behaviours Framework and Specialist Instructional Officers Management Practices Document.

h. Training Administration. Contribute to the administration of Training Delivery in accordance with Defence Systems Approach to Training.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the delivery of Bowman technical systems training and wider Information Technology and Information Communications Technology training.

Qualifications

Minimum of ONC in an engineering discipline or Accredited apprenticeship or 4 years’ industry or military experience in an Engineering or technical background in telecommunication, information technology or communication information systems or military Bowman qualifications.
