Summary

We are looking for a finance professional to join the Defence Nuclear Organisation finance team.

In this diverse and varied role, the successful candidate will support both the DNO Financial Accounting & Tax and DNO Governance teams.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Developing and maintaining the fraud risk register across DNO and SDA, working with Senior Officers to assess, monitor and review fraud risks and acting as the counter-fraud focal point.

Ensuring that the DNO adhere to the IR35 legislation, setting and updating guidance, providing advice to business areas and monitoring compliance.

Supporting external challenge to DNO’s corporate governance including management and liaison with Defence Internal Audit;

Ensuring that DNO is operating with regularity and propriety setting and reviewing DNO-wide policies including losses and special payments, hospitality, gifting, and undertaking audits/spot checks to ensure compliance

Undertaking monthly posting of non-current assets transactions and reconciliation of assets and assets under construction balances between the non-current asset register (NCAR) and general ledger

Supporting with the consolidation of the DNO financial accounts on a quarterly basis for both internal and external reporting

Assisting with external audit visits, facilitating the answering of Audit queries and ensuring sufficient evidence has been provided to support balances

Responsibilities

We are looking for someone with the following skills:

Essential
Candidates are expected to have experience of working in a finance environment, ideally financial accounting, governance, or an audit/assurance/compliance role.
An understanding of international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and have experience of applying accounting policies
Experience in making and justifying and/or reviewing IFRS accounting judgements through financial accounting and/or external audit.
Experience of developing and presenting financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
A knowledge of risk management and compliance measures expected in large organisations
Excellent IT skills including MS Excel
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, communicate with and influence people at all levels of the organisation

Desirable skills:
The following would be advantageous, but full training and support will be provided:
Candidates will be CCAB or AAT qualified, or be actively studying for a relevant qualification.
Knowledge of central government accounting (FReM) and budgeting (CBG)
Knowledge of defence and/or nuclear issues
Experience of promoting change and improvement and working in a project/matrix managed way
