Applications are invited from qualified and experienced Electronic Engineering Technologists for the post of Specialist Medical Engineering Technologist (Electronics) within the Radiotherapy Section of the Medical Physics Department. Candidates should ideally possess a BEng or BSc or equivalent in electrical engineering, but consideration will be given to candidates who possess a HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering and have extensive post qualification experience of working within an electrical engineering environment, or candidates who have extensive experience working within a Radiotherapy technical section. The post holder will be required to achieve the necessary standards to join the Register for Clinical Technologists.

The section provides clinical, scientific and technical services to the Radiotherapy Department, which serves the population of Tayside and North East Fife, delivering around 1400 new courses of treatment each year. Radiotherapy clinical service is equipped with three Varian Linear Accelerators with On-Board Imaging systems for external beam therapy, one wide bore Canon CT Scanner and Aria Record & Verification system. Treatment planning service is provided through Raysearch Laboratory’s Raystation planning system and PukkaJ is used for archiving the RT Dicom data. The department provides Brachytherapy service using a Varian HDR system. Full onsite and offsite training will be provided on all equipment utilised within the scope of the Medical Physics team.

This Band 6 post will be a part of the Radiotherapy Section Technical Team, comprising of a Technical Service Lead, a Technical Lead and 2 other Specialist Medical Engineering Technologists (Electronics), supporting the treatment equipment, both by way of equipment maintenance procedures and urgent repair work. Flexibility in working hours and changing working patterns will be expected.

Candidates who do not fully meet the post requirements may be considered for appointment using the Annex 21 system for a period of up to four years, dependent upon successful completion of the in-house training package.
