With a budget of around £270m, three hospitals and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a well-motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Pathology Laboratory working in Microbiology. Applications will be considered from candidates, with demonstrable competencies, who are within six months of attaining IBMS Specialist Portfolio. If applicant has not obtained their IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Microbiology, will be expected to be placed on an annex u at band 6 Agenda for change, until it has been completed, within a time frame.

Main duties of the job

North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services to the population of East Durham, Hartlepool and Stockton-on-Tees. The department is located at the North Tees site and processes in-patient, outpatient and GP requests.

Good communications skills, teamwork and an aptitude for problem solving are essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice.

Flexible working is a requirement for this post and the department operates a 24 hour rota system including extended working day, weekend, bank holiday and nightshift at agenda for change rates. The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in this rota after suitable training.

The Department has UKAS accreditation and IBMS training approval and has a well-established CPD programme.
