The Microbiology and Infection Service provides pathology services in a wide variety of settings, serving our founding Trusts, other NHS and private hospitals and primary care organisations. The Department is the Public Health Laboratory – South East for UKHSA (previously Public Health England) and links are established with the BSMS Medical School.The Microbiology service is based on 2 sites at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. The laboratory is also the testing centre for the regional Hepatitis C virus network. The laboratory holds UKAS accreditation and is accredited with the IBMS to offer training to staff who are pre and post HCPC.A full range of clinical services including virus serology and an extensive range of molecular tests are provided from the Brighton laboratory. Water and environmental microbiology are located at the Haywards Heath laboratory. There is an extensive high throughput covid testing service and 24/7 rapid covid testing service.The service forms part of an evolving pathology network (South 7) and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust merged with Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on 1st April 2021 to form UHS NHS Foundation Trust.Join us atUHSx, every day is different, you can be the change, better never stopsAt UHSussex we’re proud to be at the heart of the NHS.
