The Solutions Design Engineer takes high-level business proposals and develops them into real functional solutions. They are responsible for the process engineering and automation design aspects of projects deployed within our fulfilment operations. They work cross-functionally with internal teams and 3rd party vendors to develop innovative and high performing solutions.

Requirements:
  • Engage with internal stakeholder groups to specify project requirements, functions, and reach design sign off.
  • Documentation and communication of design detail and decision logic, supporting the solution’s delivery and the education of colleagues and management.
  • Work closely with THG Procurement on commercial elements of projects, including the formulation of capital budgets, contractual engagements and management of variations.
  • Ensuring programmes stay on plan during technical design and procurement phases.
  • Support project engineering colleagues during project delivery in risk identification and mitigation, anticipating engineering challenges as the project programme progresses.
  • Support installation and commissioning teams to establish the contractual performance criteria has been met with respect to original design.
  • Take ownership of engineering problems, develop, and deliver resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Work with reference to all required legislation, regulations, insurance criteria and safe systems of work.
  • Work with THG Project Engineering and Project Management colleagues to create and maintain project programmes.

Role Requirements:
  • Degree qualified in an applicable engineering discipline.
  • Proven engineering knowledge and project engineering / management experience of a significant size.
  • Experience within a materials handling, logistics, postal, or e-commerce environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge relating to fulfilment processes and warehouse automation.
  • Good knowledge of safe systems relating to industrial processes and automation.
  • Ideally experience in automated warehouse operations but manufacturing, automotive, and FMCG will also be beneficial.
  • Confident to debate both technical and commercial detail with internal and external parties.
  • Ability to propose creative alternative solutions when faced with project challenges.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to monitor, report and communicate progress (or barriers to progress) with variety of stakeholders, both in verbal and written form
