Summary
The role of the Software Team Leader is to lead a team of engineers in the design and development of the Control, Acquisition and Analysis Software used to test and operate our current and next generation high speed Imaging Sensors. The engineers work across all stages of a project lifecycle on the latest imaging devices and sub-systems for Space and Science from bid phase to project closeout. Software Engineers work as part of the larger test equipment delivery function to deliver automated test equipment (ATE) to test imaging sensors for science and space applications. The team is a critical part of the group developing and delivering test equipment across multiple projects. As the team leader and Senior Software Engineer, the ideal candidate will design and deliver software solutions, while supporting and providing leadership to the team.
  • Lead a team of engineers to deliver software work packages on time, on cost and on quality with regular communication of status against plan and any escalations for support required.
  • Resource management and involvment in S&OP process
  • Design, develop and deliver control, acquisition and analysis software using LabVIEW and MATLAB.
  • Deliver software work packages and associated documentation, such as test plans and test reports, whilst working within an established software development framework.
  • Champion configuration control and management of all elements of test software including but not limited to control, acquisition, analysis and probe.
  • Directly contribute to the roadmap for ATE software and test equipment in the division by providing recommendations and positively driving change.
  • Ownership, Maintenance & Delivery of the Software Development Plan (SDP).
  • Drive quality standards throughout all areas of the team whilst monitoring and reporting on the team’s performance against quality metrics.
  • Support personal development of team members to increase skills and knowledge of individuals and the team as a whole.
  • Provide necessary inputs to bids and the local cost models associated with the teams work packages.
  • Provide Engineering support to Operations to rapidly resolve non-conformances, yield improvement or data quality.
  • Ensure compliance of processes and best practise to deliver successful engineering governance and gate reviews.
  • Working alongside teams outside of the Test Software group, including Electronics, Firmware, Project Management and Product Verification to develop and deliver ATE.
skills & Experience Essential Qualifications
  • Technical background in ATE software design with a relevant degree in software, engineering or physics or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Technically proficient in one or more of the following software tools is required – Matlab, Labview.
  • Experience reviewing and delivering against technical and project requirements in accordance with any relevant test plans. Experience of structured software development processes. Experience of test development and fault finding.
  • A strong desire to drive a positive attitude to health & safety within the team, leading by example with health & safety initiatives.
  • Good Leadership and communication.
  • A positive outlook with a "can do" attitude and an ability to challenge and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to communicate, positively influence and negotiate at all levels within an organisation.
  • Ability to multi-task on several assignments and complete all to a high standard, with a high degree of energy to deliver on commitments.
  • Good team player with the ability to work effectively with team members of varying personalities and abilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Whilst not essential, the ideal candidate would have experience leading teams of engineers of all levels of ability.
  • Technically proficient in one or more of the following software tools is desired – C#, C++, Python.
  • Knowledge of electronics principles and/or device physics of Charge Coupled Devices, CMOS image detectors and associated Read out ICs (ROICs).
  • Ability to provide examples of championing the successful development and implementation of software tools in industry.
  • Broad test engineering experience with a good understanding of all aspects of test engineering including but not limited to mechanical and electrical aspects as well as software.
  • Experience providing technical, scheduling and cost inputs to work packages for bids and projects.
