What are we looking for in a Software Business Analyst?

We are looking for an experienced Software Business Analyst to join our Engineering team, who has a strong understanding of the technical aspect of a business and its systems. They will be the key link to all areas of the business and responsible for capturing, qualifying, and specifying business requirements and feeding this across to our development team.

We are looking for a well organised individual who is constantly thinking about the ‘what’ and ‘when’, and always looking to improve our systems. The successful candidate will understand how development teams works & what is easily achievable and more complex.

The key attributes that we would like our new team member to have a technical mind and vocabulary, strong communication skills, confidence both to investigate requirements further and to lead discovery workshops and feedback following test scenarios. A methodical approach and ability to create flow diagrams, mapping new business processes, produce reporting metrics.

It would be great if you have experience working with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or Enterprise resource planning (ERP) however this can all be taught on the job.

What will the Software Business Analyst role entail?

The Software Business Analyst will act as the bridge between our Software Development team and business departments through requirements gathering, technical communication and documentation. The Successful candidate will be responsible for the management of requests, including all steps of the requirements engineering process, building of business cases, progress updates on the feature’s development, and its documentation. You will be asked to track and report on the overall delivery of business change projects to the wider business, from end user to executive level. You will be able to identify and implement efficiency improvements to our delivery process.

  • Attending meetings as the face of the development team, considering proposed changes and their impact to existing systems.
  • Translating “customer” requirements to technical steps for the development team.
  • Consult with stakeholders to create documentation and process work.
  • Own system solutions requested by departments.
  • Prioritise the solutions and offer achievable deadlines.
  • Communicate at all levels of technical language.
  • Build key relationships with departments.
  • Deliver user training and demonstrations of new features.
  • Recording user guides to capture operations of our systems.
  • Perform end user testing of software features.
  • Deliver work to timescales & shifting urgency.
  • Produce clear and well considered documented tasks with precise acceptance criteria.
  • Create and edit technical system diagrams as part of our growing documentation library.
  • Facilitate the building of business cases for larger projects and present these to our Project Review Board.
