Location: Quarry Centre, Aberdeen

Duration:Permanent, Part Time - 18.5 hours per week

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 12 and above (currently £32,555 per annum / £16.92 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job Purpose/about The Role

Provide a high quality systemic social work service within the Kinship, Adoption & Fostering Service. Work with prospective and approved kinship carers to ensure the needs of children and families are met in a timely manner and within statutory guidelines. Be accountable for work undertaken, which includes assessing and analysing on a strength-based system, providing robust reports and presenting to relevant forums. Delivering relevant support and training to kinship carers while working with other relevant professionals and keeping the child/young person at the centre of practice.

The Post Holder Needs To Hold As a Minimum
  • BA Social Work qualification or equivalent DipSW, CQSW
  • SSSC Registration
  • PVG Membership
The Postholder Is Able To Demonstrate

The post holder needs to be able to demonstrate an understanding or experience of:
  • Legal frameworks and the Local Authority’s statutory responsibilities relevant to the service area.
  • National and local practice, policy, procedure and legislation relevant to the post
  • Childcare legislation, statutory guidance and Child Protection Procedures
  • Statutory frameworks and guidance for children’s social work
  • Child development, parenting capacity, environmental factors and risk and protective factors.
  • The roles and responsibilities of key agencies including their statutory responsibilities
  • A range of systemic interventions and methodologies and commitment to use systemic approaches.
  • Social work with families whilst minimising the impact of conflict.
  • Issues relating to equal opportunities and communities from different racial, economic, social and cultural backgrounds
  • A commitment to the principles of the Promise
  • The ability to assess and balance risk and protective factors within the framework of relevant assessments.
  • The ability to assess strengths and vulnerabilities, formulate and implement effective social work interventions, support plans and training needs.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks, manage own workload and be accountable for quality case work to achieve positive outcomes.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and build rapport with a range of individuals including children and families and other professionals.
  • The ability to negotiate effectively to reach a resolution and successfully implementing change.
  • The ability to deal with complex issues in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
  • The ability to use information management systems to maintain accurate management information and high-quality data.
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate complex information to produce high quality concise reports to inform quality casework and business decisions.
  • The ability to provide robust assessments and present reports about complex information as required to internal, external audiences.
  • Ability to use research findings and statutory guidance to inform social work practice.
