Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Coordinator

Location: Wigan WN2 1HQ

Working hours: Monday – Friday, 8 – 5pm (40 hours a week)

We’re on the search for a dedicated Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality Coordinator to join the BMI team in Wigan.

This is a fixed term contract until Feb 2022 based at our Wigan plant, where we manufacture our bespoke concrete roof tiles.

Role Overview

You’ll coordinate work systems to ensure the products of the company meet the highest quality standards and that the working conditions of the company are favourable and safe.

In this role, you’ll be a key part of the Plant Management team driving through agreed objectives and contributing to achieving Business Unit and Group objectives.

As the Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) Coordinator you’ll be responsible for managing nationally agreed systems within the Plant and Quarry ensuring legal compliance across the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the processing of complaints reporting system is timely and accurate
  • Maintaining compliance with third party audit and accreditation
  • Collection of weekly and monthly KPI information
  • Delivery of information for month end reporting
  • Maintaining complete/accurate Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality records to the Company standard
  • Coordinate all plant and cross audits, risk assessments, essential meetings
  • Training and development of staff members
  • Investigate and report serious incidents to the relevant functional heads
  • Liaise with local authorities for investigation and inspections
  • Keep local management teams up to date with local legislation
  • Ensure corrective and preventative actions from internal/external audits are delivered on time
  • Delivering support to the site Operations/Plant Manager to ensure all legal and Company Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality standards are adhered to
  • Undertake project work as and when required
  • Ensure a policy of continual improvement is applied to all three disciplines by engaging employees at all levels


What we’re looking for?

The ideal candidate will be competent, organised, accurate and capable of prioritising workloads within a manufacturing environment. You’ll have strong verbal and written communications skills and able to interact with people at all levels.

You’ll have a passion to operate a philosophy of continual improvement at the Plant and Quarry across Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality.

It is essential to be able to follow and maintain working standards, procedures and processes whilst able to use own initiative to provide key support to the management teams.

To be successful, you’ll have a NEBOSH level 2 certificate and experience/understanding of BS EN ISO 14001 and 9001.
