The Environmental Planning team is a cross sector, multi-disciplinary team delivering Environmental Planning consulting across the asset life cycle, and across the value chain. Our approx. 200 strong team delivers revenues of £14M pa across the Ecology, Arboriculture, Culture Heritage, Acoustics, Air Quality, Town Planning and Consents and Environmental Assessment / Management technical disciplines. Together our teams are supporting delivery of some of the UK’s largest road and rail projects including Lower Thames Crossing and High Speed 2. In addition to Infrastructure our team has a strong portfolio and pipeline of opportunities across other key sectors including Energy, Government, Water and Buildings, particularly residential property.

The team have a clear 2021 plan with focus areas for growth, and areas of development of new propositions. Key areas of focus for us include Zero Carbon Masterplanning, Sustainable Planning & Communities, Climate Smart Land Management, and Biodiversity & Nature-based Solutions.

Job Description
We require a Senior Technical Director with a strong technical knowledge of the Environmental and Planning Sector to work closely with our Senior Leadership Team and grow our pipeline and increase our work winning, driving excellence throughout the Environmental Planning team, in how it wins and also delivers work, using lessons learnt to feed into the process and leading the Market to Opportunity process. It requires a strong client focus, underpinned by technical excellence, to implement a strategy for growth, aligned to the objectives of the Environmental Planning business and the wider Arcadis aspirations.

Role Purpose-
Key responsibilities will be-
  • Overseeing the markets to opportunity / strategic growth strategy for Environmental Planning - working and collaborating with Proposition and Sector Leads, within and beyond the Environmental Planning team
  • Growing pipeline and work winning
  • Development of capability and providing leadership to the team
  • Service delivery

Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience-
  • Have experience of operating at a strategic level in a large and diverse team
  • Have experience of developing and implementing strategy, and developing and taking to market Value Propositions
  • Have experience of working at a senior level with diverse internal and external stakeholders, and evidence of building effective client relationships
  • Leading and coordinating activities to achieve strategic and commercial targets, collaborating to source people/skills from the most appropriate teams in a large environmental team and beyond
  • Developed and maintained excellent senior-level relationships with clients (internal and external) and where appropriate contributed to Key Client Management plans and activities that supported the growth strategy.
  • Lead Go / No Go discussions, liaising as necessary to obtain buy-in to pursuing and delivering an opportunity to advance strategic objectives.
  • Undertaken capture planning activities, prospects and pipeline monitoring / growth.
  • Be able to establish a strong internal and external network to support the delivery and growth of the business
  • Display first class communication, interpersonal, relationship building, collaboration and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to drive innovation and a growth mindset culture within a business
  • Experience across multiple sectors and all stages of environmental consultancy’s project life cycle including strategic optioneering, single option development, EIA, requirements discharge post consent and detailed design and construction.
  • Demonstrable successful experience of directing major pursuits, with excellent commercial experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, possibly with a relevant professional certification and chartered status.
