Role and Responsibilities

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:This role will support the land training and simulation business, proving the UK MOD with world beating training solutions that provide a competitive edge.

The Senior Systems Architect Role Provides
  • Systems Engineering direction and support from initial pre-contract award stage through derivation and definition of cost-effective innovative technical solutions that meets customer requirements in a successful manner.
  • Technical leadership and governance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilites
  • The direction and coordination of systems engineering tasks from requirements management through to design, integration and formal testing to delivery, thereby overseeing all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Working with dispersed, multi-disciplined teams to satisfactorily develop and complete actions in system specifications, technical and logistical requirements in an efficient manner. Engaging and embracing other disciplines to ensure the smooth running of a program. Lead the engineering team in the definition and design of innovative, novel and cost-effective solutions that meets customer requirements.
  • When applicable, act as the solution Design Authority and provide cohesive support to both the bid and project teams.
  • Act as the focal point for liaison with the Business Development (BD) team and provide technical council and guidance to the BD team for the development of customer solutions. This typically includes competitor analysis, developing business cases, workshare and collaboration decisions in support of prospects.
  • Co-ordinate and contribute to the engineering inputs in support of bids, ensuring that the solution concepts are effectively conveyed to the bid team.
  • To define and derive solutions that meet customer requirements and comply with the business case.
  • Making informed make/buy decisions on technical components to ensure a cost effective sutainable solution.
  • Where necessary, provide support to Local and Global Strategic Sourcing with respect to the procurement of goods and/or engineering services relating to projects. This typically includes creation of technical requirements documents and input into the the creation of statements of work as well as the technical management of subcontractors.
  • When applicable, provide demonstrations and make presentations, both internally and externally to customers and team partners/members.
  • Following contract award, provide engineering support to Project Management in order to provide a technically compliant and safe solution in line with assigned budgets; lead the project engineering team; and provide technical support throughout the integration and acceptance process.
  • Identifying and selecting suitable partners and sub-contractors and orchestrate their subsequent technical management.
  • Maintain currency with technological advances and their application to CAE solutions.
  • Maintain currency with competitor differentiators and products together with their market presence to ensure that CAE maintains a technical competitive advantage.
  • Any other duties as may be required.
Required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Systems Engineering and/or other key engineering disciplines
  • At least 5 years Systems Engineering Experience
  • Experience of providing comprehensive system engineering inputs into proposal documents within a competitive marketplace.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more engineering disciplines and broad engineering experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within time and budgetary constraints.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and coordination skills.
  • Good PC skills (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, etc).
Highly Desirable
  • Background in Training & Simulation, Defence or complimentary domain/industry.
  • Appreciation of, and experience with, modern Enterprise IT architectures, including cloud computing.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of AI/ML.
  • Experience in the application of modelling & simulation in the non-training domain
  • Experience as a team lead, or ability to lead a team.
  • Good understanding of project finances.
  • Sound commercial awareness.

  • Some activities will require travel to other CAE and Customer sites in the UK and overseas, along with some overtime and occasional weekend working .
  • Must be able to obtain or transfer Security Clearance which the Company sponsors (applicants must have lived continuously in the UK for the past 5 years in order to obtain security clearance) or currently holds NATO SC level Security Clearance that can be transferred from overseas to the UK.
