Senior Systems Engineer

Your role is at the core of everything BMT does - helping our customers with high quality engineering consultancy to support the development and acquisition of complex systems and platforms.

Are you looking to apply your developing systems engineering knowledge to new and varied challenges within the defence and security sector; from helping and advising customers in concept phase development, through to supporting the delivery of capability into service? What is the role?

As part of our ambitious growth plans, new roles are being created within our expanding Systems Engineering team. Much of our work is acquisition and support orientated providing consultancy type services within DE&S, Defence Digital and Front Line Commands . You will join an energetic and experienced team, supporting the delivery of systems engineering activities throughout the lifecycle.

You Will Be

  • Supporting the development and management of User and System level requirements, acceptance and test planning and management for complex systems and platforms.
  • Applying systems engineering processes (e.g. ISO15288:2015) across the lifecycle and developing appropriate engineering documentation, e.g. Management Plans, Requirement Strategies, Acceptance Plans, Architectural Definitions
  • Developing your understanding of engineering within the MOD’s procurement framework, Knowledge In Defence (KID), to d evelop the engineering artefacts required to support the customer’s business case process and CADMID phases.
  • Developing architectures across the enterprise using standard languages (Archimate, UML, SysML) and frameworks (MoDAF, TOGAF).
  • Technical lead on smaller projects, delivering identified engineering outputs within time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Developing technical bid responses and working collaboratively with clients at bid stage to develop effective approaches that will meet client needs within their constraints.
What are we looking for?

To be successful in the role you will ideally have some or all of the following:
  • Solid demonstrable and relevant experience in consultancy or the defence enterprise of developing or supporting the procurement of complex systems.
  • Experience of requirements elicitation and management in challenging stakeholder environments. Using DOORS or other tools to create Requirements And Acceptance Databases.
  • Experience of test, evaluation and acceptance planning and conduct for complex systems.
  • Experience with the CADMID cycle and developing engineering strategies and artefacts required by the customer.
  • Experience of performing the systems engineering roles on projects developing complex systems.
  • Experience of the Systems Engineering V mode and ISO 15288, and a demonstrable experience of the value this approach can bring to complex programmes.
  • Knowledge or awareness of operational analysis, model creation for decision support.
  • Knowledge or awareness of developing abstract architectures to describe systems and processes:
    • Using modelling languages such as SysML or ArchiMate.
    • Using frameworks such a MoDAF and TOGAF.
    • Using standard tools such as Enterprise Architect, MooD, Cameo, BizzDesign etc.
  • Proven ability to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects to cost and schedule.
You Will Be

  • Aiming at CEng or CSEP status, if not already achieved.
  • Confident in a customer facing/consultation role.
  • A trusted individual who can perform when working as part of a team or when acting independently with support from colleagues.
  • Articulate with good presentation and written communication skills.
  • Systematic and logical in your approach to problem solving.
  • Able to understand complexity and present it in simple terms.
Please note, the successful candidate must hold, or be eligible to obtain, UK security clearance to SC level.
